Amazon Review by Gregory Jerome
As a DJ and dedicated collector of all things bass driven and soulful that roast dance floors, I highly recommend this CD. For starters, it contains 3 soul dance classics. Jean Carn's "Was That All It Was," and "If You Wanna Go" are both unavailable elsewhere outside of buying her original vinyl releases. When possible this collection uses the 12" version which is where the action is at with their superb, funky-funky breakdowns. "Was That All It Was" is the 12" version. As well, the Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes "Don't Leave Me This Way" was a surprise to me. Like everyone, I'm familiar with the Thelma Houston cover which is a well worn classic. This original version by Harold Melvin is pure smoke. I don't think a single party should ever be thrown without this one getting played. It's better than Thelma's cover. It's arrangement includes choruses that aren't in Thelma's, and they give the song soaring heights. If you have a party on GO and drop this one, that's it, it's over. People are gonna go ALL OUT and need a towel afterward.
