Ocean Study

Proceedings of the Symposium on Ocean Seismo-Acoustics, organized by SACLANT ASW Research Centre, held June 10-14, 1985. Its purpose was toenhance cross-disciplinary dialogue and generate ideas for new research directions. This volume contains papers originating from the Symposium and includes several additional features.

This issue aims to identify the ocean color data needs for a broad range of end users, develop a consensus for the minimum requirements, and outline options to meet these needs on a sustained basis. The report assesses lessons learned in global ocean color remote sensing from the SeaWiFS/MODIS era to guide planning for acquisition of future global ocean color radiance data to support U.S. research and operational needs.

The remote sensing of oceans from space has developed rapidly since 1978 when the first dedicated ocean viewing sensors were launched. In 1991 the first European Space Agency remote sensing satellite carried sensors primarily for the ocean, heralding the widespread use of satellite data by oceanographers.

This book is dedicated to the study of structure and transport of deep and bottom waters above and through underwater channels of the Atlantic Ocean. The study is based on recent observations, analysis of historical data, and literature reviews.
