A young teenage couple having a rendezvous one night on a beach in Florida suddenly sees a submarine emerge from the ocean. Armed soldiers disembark the vessel and a Buick drives off its landing ramp. For Henry Hazen, who is scheduled to ship out to an army training camp the next day, the sight leaves him uneasy, but he tells no one what he has witnessed…

I grew up in Newark, New Jersey where such great artists as James Moody, Sarah Vaughan, Walter Davis Jr., Hank Mobley were my neighbors and Wayne Shorter was my dear friend. Wayne and I went to grammar school and Arts High School together. I was very influenced by Wayne in every way and knew at young age that he was a genius. But I could not tolerate the cold winters, so I decided to move to Los Angeles.

Wayne and I went to grammar school and Arts High School together. I was very influenced by Wayne in every way and knew at young age that he was a genius. But I could not tolerate the cold winters, so I decided to move to Los Angeles. It was 1960. In 1961, I received a call from Jules Chaikin, a young contractor that I worked for, who knew my playing and asked if I wanted to go on the road with Stan Kenton. I was overwhelmed since this was one of the bands I dreamed of playing with. Nine months later we ended the tour at Capitol Records. I recorded three albums with the band, including “Adventures in Jazz” which won a Grammy for Stan and “Adventures in Blues” which Stan said was my album since it featured the bass walking predominantly through the whole album.

Once you’ve heard Pat Metheny you will always recognise him, no matter what company he’s in or what instrument he’s playing, be it a simple acoustic guitar or some unlikely invention of his own. Beneath it all there’s a frank, open-hearted tunefulness that keeps the music airborne. This double album, recorded at the end of a year-long tour by his Unity Band, is as polished and sophisticated as any, but moments such as the opening melody of This Belongs to You or the gradual unfolding of Born are just plain elegant. There’s a similar quality about saxophonist Chris Potter’s playing, and all four are so relaxed in each other’s company that everything flows beautifully.

Gravity's Rainbow is the ninth studio album and tenth album overall by American singer Pat Benatar. It was released in 1993 on Chrysalis Records. The album is named after, though bears little other relation to, the Thomas Pynchon novel of the same name. It peaked at No. 85 on the US Billboard 200. Gravity's Rainbow would be Benatar's last studio album recorded for Chrysalis.

After 2023's Dream Box, Pat Metheny embarked on a long solo tour, during which he experimented with a new guitar built for him by luthier Linda Manzer. The custom baritone utilized nylon strings, sourced from an Argentinian company after an exhaustive search, to get the tone Metheny desired for his idiosyncratic tuning. The striking difference in sound sparked an epiphany that he says, "instantly peeled open a whole new range of possibilities …. this guitar allows me to go deep … to a place that I maybe have never quite gotten to before." Metheny has always been an expressive and emotional player, but an even deeper resonance echoes across the beautifully recorded MoonDial, a collection of originals and carefully chosen covers. The album-defining, title-track opener has his trademark insistent drive and innate melodicism.
