The bands on this selection represent the innovative boiling point of the short-lived worldwide psychedelic rock movement between 1967-71, the years when garage punk evolved into heavy psychedelic rock with its wider soundscapes and complex improvisations. Vol. 1 contains a dozen 45-rpm songs by lost psychedelic messengers (8 US bands, one from Germany, Peru and France). The groups are Blackrock, Sound Machine, Yesterday´s Obsession, Mastermind, Sangre Mexicana, Bhagavad Gita, Protein Bros, Purple Canteen, Los Nuevos Shains, Blow Mind and the A & B-side of legendary Dirty Filthy Mud. About half of the songs are previously unreissued and appear in stunning soundquality and with 12 p. poster-booklet. 2016 three CD collection. As that noted hipster Plato once observed, when the mode of the music changes, the walls of the city shake. And there was certainly a whole lotta shakin' goin' on in 1967. A distended Summer of Love saw psychedelic pop emerging from the underground clubs to infiltrate the home-grown music scene mainstream, with the vast majority following in the footsteps of perennial market leaders The Beatles in surrendering to the new genre. As the year progressed, it seemed that more or less every element of the British pop world had been swept up in the blissed-out UFOria. Beat boom survivors, R&B stalwarts, sharp-suited mods, Swinging London soul revues, earnest acoustic folkies, Denmark Street hustlers, traditional pop acts… all abandoned or refined their previous identities to make music that reflected the ubiquitous influence of psychedelia in it's myriad paisley-patterned guises. Across four hours and eighty tracks, the all-singing, not-much-dancing Let's Go Down And Blow Our Minds anticipates the 50th anniversary of the Summer of Love to chronicle a tumultuous twelve-month period of music-making within the British Isles.

Farflung - So Many Minds, So Little Time (1997) Music

Farflung are a space rock band based out of Los Angeles, California. Forming in 1992 and going under the Farflung moniker in 1994, this band draws heavily from Hawkwind space rock (Even touring and collaborating with Nik Turner.), kraut rock ala Can and stoner rock to compose a sound that is often free-form and unpredictable. Henry Rollins would cite Farflung among one of his favorite acts in a 2010 interview, describing them as "It sounds like a bunch of guys that grew up on [Hawkwind's] In Search of Space. They have their own thing, but it's all echoed out.

Another lovingly curated rock & roll gem from Cherry Red's archival Grapefruit Records imprint, A Slight Disturbance in My Mind is an expansive three-disc set entirely devoted to the opening phases of Britain's budding psychedelic movement. By late 1965, the American underground, particularly San Francisco's LSD-inspired drug culture, had begun to infiltrate popular music. The Byrds and other West Coast groups began to adopt a more experimental attitude while in the U.K. bands like the Yardbirds and, more prominently, the Beatles forged their own new directions away from rock's more easily digestible conventions.
