Third time around for Jess and the Ancient Ones sees them take a magical mystery trip to the dark side of the sixties as seen through the eyes of modern-day occult rock musicians. This time the band went for an organic and human approach and produced a very old fashioned album, 9 songs and 34 minutes, recorded and mixed together with their live sound engineer. Groovy, heavy, psychedelic beat music? Hard death rock? Occult head-exploding meltdown? All of them and more. “I cannot put a label on it, I just make it as it comes”, says band guitarist and composer Thomas Corpse, who also created the lysergic cover art to The Horse and Other Weird Tales.

One minute The Action were the ultimate mod cult band, belting out exuberant Anglicised approximations of Tamla/soul material in clubs across the country, the next they’d shed singer Reggie King and mutated into questing countercultural adventurers Mighty Baby.
Under the leadership of guitarist Martin Stone, they would become increasingly insular as four of the five band members converted to Islam and they moved slowly towards a more improvised sound. By the end of 1971, fasting for Ramadan had left them almost too weak to perform onstage, at which juncture they came to the reluctant conclusion that rock’n’roll and the Muslim faith were incompatible…

This anniversary release is a three CD collection featuring classic rock acts from the Old Grey Whistle Test era including the likes of Elton John, Eric Clapton, The Who, Bob Dylan and Led Zeppelin, as well as a number of American new wave artists such as Blondie, The Ramones and Talking Heads. The bonus tracks were recorded live on the Old Grey Whistle Test and cover the shows entire 16 years and as such have a more diverse feel with artists from Alice Cooper and John Lennon to Magazine and Simple Minds. The album is packaged in a deluxe reverse board digipak.

Sparkle In The Rain is the sixth studio album by Simple Minds, released in 1984. It peaked at number one in the UK album charts on 18 February 1984. Sparkle In The Rain, Simple Minds' US breakthrough album, is a rock-oriented album. The single "Waterfront," which reached number one in a few European countries, remains one of the band's signature songs to this day, as well as "Speed Your Love To Me" and "Up On The Catwalk". The album also contains a cover version of Lou Reed's song "Street Hassle".
