Before he left us in July 2, 2002, Ray Brown reigned as the king of jazz bassists for over five decades. As a disciple of Oscar Pettiford and Jimmy Blanton, Brown's sturdy tone, impeccable technique, and swinging drive propelled Ella Fitzgerald, Oscar Peterson, Milt Jackson, and countless other jazz stars to fame. On this CD, his 18th recording for the Telarc label and his fifth in his celebrated Best Friends series, Brown is joined by the young guitar wizard Russell Malone and the lyrical, Jamaican-born pianist Monty Alexander. The drumless lineup is a tribute to the groundbreaking trios Brown lead with Oscar Peterson, and the music is simply remarkable. With Alexander's flowing pianisms shadowed by Malone's articulate guitar work, Brown's deep grooves are only topped by his flawless melodic ideas.

Mastered by Gus Skinas of Sonoma Records and produced by Mickey Holuhan of Wind Over The Earth, this acoustic PURE DSD recording was commissioned by the Denver Museum of Outdoor Arts for their premiere multimedia "Color of Sound" presentation. Color of Sound is a live-in-studio abstract improve stereo and surround recording of the musicians' interpretation of various colors. The recording contains no edits or overdubs and is an excellent rendition of the live studio performance and was recorded live to the Sonoma DSD PURE recording system.

Jean-Marc Luisada is a French pianist born in Bizerte, Tunisia. He started on the piano at six years old. He signed an exclusive agreement with RCA Red Seal in 1998. Among his recordings are the waltzes and mazurkas of Frédéric François Chopin. This album have been recorded in Japan at Salamanca Hall. It marked as Pure DSD Recording.

Colorado-based guitarist Janet Feder has developed a highly personal musical language, drawing inspiration from folk, jazz, minimalism, classical, avant-garde and even pop. Since the early nineties she began experimenting with her guitar, preparing it in different tunings, attaching objects to the strings, developing a unique original sound of her own. "T H I S C L O S E", her fifth solo album, is Feder's most fully realized album, featuring nine haunting songs. She manages to create a intimate sonic atmosphere in each of these songs, still, each sounds as a distilled essence of a much larger and deeper musical idea, leaving the listener with lingering thoughts.
