For this reason we can't wait to hear what you create using our most intense library yet… "Espressivo".

Most anyone still doubting Coroner's merits as anything but "the band formed by Celtic Frost's old roadies" was likely silenced by their very impressive second album, 1988's Punishment for Decadence. Though not nearly as adventurous as their previous employers early on, the members of Coroner had the clear advantage of being incredibly gifted musicians from day one; and aesthetically, they evidently already aspired to become the thrash metal power trio equivalent of Rush by splitting songwriting duties between guitarist Tommy T. Baron and bassist/singer Ron Royce, while drummer Marquis Marky handled the lyric-writing…

A short-lived spinoff group formed by onetime Detroit Emeralds members James Mitchell and Marvin Willis, Floaters scored a number one R&B and number two pop hit with their debut, "Float On," for ABC. It was neither a lyrical nor vocal triumph, but was still among the biggest-selling R&B singles of 1977. Featuring lead singer Charles Clark, along with Larry Cunningham, Paul and Ralph Mitchell, and Jonathan Murray, the group wasn't able to sustain whatever magic it generated with "Float On." The next two singles were actually superior performances to the hit. "You Don't Have to Say You Love Me" and "I Just Want to Be with You" demonstrated that Clark could be an effective ballad singer, but neither could move beyond moderate R&B chart status.

2016 collection. The Ace catalogue has traditionally focused on American music. But our compilers have never shied from venturing worldwide in their quest for good sounds, as evident from our popular collections spotlighting the female vocalists of 1960s Japan, France and Italy (not forgetting the UK). Now it's the turn of Sweden. Our smörgåsbord of Swedish she-pop opens with early solo sides by the lead singers of the nation's greatest pop music export, ABBA: Agnetha Fältskog with 'Ge Dej Till Tåls' (a highlight of her second album) and Anni-Frid Lyngstad with 'Så Synd Du Måste Gå' (a song popularised by Françoise Hardy as 'Comment Te Dire Adieu'). Other featured well-known names include national treasure Lill-Babs with her cover of Dusty Springfield's 'Little By Little' and chart star Mona Wessman with a version of 'Music To Watch Girls By'. But it wasn't all cover versions in mid-60s Sweden. Dig, for example, Eleanor Bodel's title track, 'Don't' by cult favourite Doris (who also appears as lead vocalist of the group Plums), au pair duo Bella & Me's groovy 'Help Me Break This Habit' and Britt Bergström's Ivy League-penned 'You Really Have Started Something'. Cherry-picked tracks by the Plommons and cover stars MAK Les Soeurs illustrate the country also produced it's fair share of all-girl groups.

Still rather wrong-headedly regarded as a ‘guilty pleasure’ (thanks Sean Rowley), Jeff Lynne’s Electric Light Orchestra were quite simply a gigantic pop hit machine. Oft-derided as a mere Beatles copyist, Lynne’s genius was to take his earliest ambition of recreating the rush felt when first hearing ‘’I Am The Walrus’’ and achieve it, again and again.

The fourth long-player from mercurial Icelandic singer/songwriter Emiliana Torrini, arrives five years after 2008's well-received Me and Armini. The extended break afforded Torrini the time to tour, write, and become a parent, the latter of which casts a warm and wistful patina over the nine-track Tookah (a made up word that, according to its author, means "the inner good and bad balanced"). Collaborating once again with producer Dan Carey, who brought along a significant arsenal of vintage synths and analog equipment, Torrini follows no clear musical path on Tookah, yet it all feels effortless, nuanced, and connected.
