When Instant Funk moved from Philadelphia International's TSOP label to Salsoul, all of the pieces fell into place for the band - both commercially and creatively. While its first album, Get Down With the Philly Jump, was decent but uneven, its second and third albums were generally excellent. For Instant Funk, switching labels didn't mean switching producers - the Philadelphians worked with Bunny Sigler at TSOP and continued to work with him at Salsoul. Sigler was the ideal producer for Instant Funk because he really understood what the band was going for: an unorthodox blend of Philly soul/disco and the type of hardcore funk that other cities were better known for. Sigler is a major asset on Witch Doctor, which was Instant Funk's second album for Salsoul and its third album overall. From the sweaty funk of "Bodyshine" (a major hit), "Slap, Slap Lickedy Lap," and "Witch Doctor" to the smooth ballad "I Had a Dream," Sigler does right by Instant Funk on this solid effort.

"I'm in Love" is the 4th album released by R&B singer Evelyn "Champagne" King on RCA Records in 1981. It was produced by Morrie Brown, Willie Lester, Rodney Brown, Kashif, and Lawrence Jones. By the time her previous album "Call on Me" was released, disco music in the United States faced severe backlash across the country pressuring it to move underground. The now infamous so-called "death of disco" propelled artists to look elsewhere for inspiration, one of which was the way of "one-man bands" pioneered by Stevie Wonder. King was one of the previous successful disco artists who followed the new direction in music. The album peaked at #6 on the R&B albums chart. It also reached #28 on the Billboard 200. It produced the hit singles "I'm In Love", "If You Want My Lovin'", "Don't Hide Our Love", and "Spirit of the Dancer". The album was certified Gold by the RIAA. The album was digitally remastered and reissued on CD with 5 bonus tracks in 2011 by Big Break Records.

Following the demise of the legendary Blossom Toes in December ’69, guitarist Brian Godding and bassist Brian Belshaw backed vocalist Julie Driscoll at two London concerts in early 1970, along with drummer Barry Jenkins. The second of these concerts took place at The Roundhouse on 27th February 1970. A highlight of the performance was a rendition of Godding’s rousing composition ‘New Day’, a song recorded by Blossom Toes but sadly not released.

Funky Divas was a multi-platinum crossover phenomenon that sold 3.5 million copies in the US alone. Funky Divas’ five singles include three gold-certified US Top 10 pop hits: Giving Him Something He Can Feel, Free Your Mind, and My Lovin’ (Never Gonna Get It), which reached No 1 on the R&B charts and No 2 on the pop charts.

Signing to Elton John's newly established Rocket Records, Stackridge recorded the album 'Extravaganza', with Mutter Slater returning to the fold prior to recording sessions. This Esoteric Recordings edition has been expanded to include an additional CD which features a wonderful performance for the Radio One In Concert program recorded January 1975. The release features an illustrated booklet with exclusive band interviews and an essay by Mike Barnes.

Formed in Bristol in 1969, Stackridge were one of the most unique British bands of the era. Their initial line-up featured Andy Davis (guitar, keyboards, vocals), James Warren (guitar, vocals), James “Crun” Walter (bass), Michael “Mutter” Slater (flute, vocals), Michael Evans (violin) and Billy Bent (drums). Possessing a gift for melody, musicianship and a fine sense of humour and English eccentricity, their concerts were legendary.
