Rocket Scientists first efford is an interesting album, but it seems they still did no know exactly what they wanted to do or how to do. The basic elements are all here: excellent musicanship, fair use of analog keyboards, tasteful arrangements, great melodic sense. Compared to latter day RS records, the songs on Earthbound are shorter, more accessible and there are less solos. It looked like the band was still shy to experiment more and show off the excellency of their talents…
Rocket Empire: "Sky Float Sun - what does it mean? It explains what flying is like, the experience of floating on the air with just you and the clouds and the sun outside the airplane window. The album is a collection of songs we worked on in multiple studios in Portland, Oregon over a four-year period. Each song has a different vibe and this is a result of not working in just one studio…
Alvin Lee got itchy feet after some years mainly working in the studio. He’d quit Ten Years After to take a break from endless touring, but the lure of the road drew him back and the result was the ironically titled Ten Years Later that was a splendid platform for the virtuoso guitarist to get his rocks off, once again.
Digitally remastered and expanded two CD edition. Formed in Bristol in 1969, Stackridge were one of the most unique British bands of the era. Their initial line-up featured Andy Davis (guitar, keyboards, vocals), James Warren (guitar, vocals), James "Crun" Walter (bass), Michael "Mutter" Slater (flute, vocals), Michael Evans (violin) and Billy Bent (drums). Stackridge underwent a series of line-up changes and signed to Elton John's newly established Rocket Records label, releasing the album Extravaganza in 1975. The following year, they recorded their final album of the 1970s, the conceptual Mr Mick. The original version of the album featured a story and narration and was rejected by Rocket Records and the band were forced to prepare a different version of the record for release in 1976. This Esoteric Recordings edition has been expanded to include the original version of the album as originally planned by the band.
