This original soundtrack by Nino Rota even was among the nominations for oscar 1968, but over time has served to elevate above all the love theme of the soundtrack (commercially titled 'A time for us'), which has been covered by a huge number of big bands and performers. The recording of the soundtrack for the film was commercially released in other versions (up arrangements with other authors) and including the most important dialogues, but this Capitol recording is precisely the only including exclusive soundtrack, directed by Rota itself, excluding these dialogues.

A theme to end all themes "Romeo & Juliet", composed by Nino Rota is without a doubt one of the most romantic and poetic scores ever conceived. Even when the music stops, the theme remains in your mind with tragic-love and medieval forbidden passions. A play from William Shakespeare, under the brilliant direction of Franco Zeffirelli with a young cast of players – seventeen year old Leonard Whitting (as Romeo), fifteen year old Olivia Hussey (as Juliet) and outstanding supporting cast of Milo O'Shea (as Friar Laurence), Michael York (as Tybalt) and John McEnery (as Mercutio) takes this film adaptation to the ultimate of classic Shakespeare. The film was sexual, passionate and lavish, but it was our composer Nino Rota who connected all the musical notes and gave our characters life on the silver screen. Composed by Nino Rota, performed by City of Prague Philharmonic, conducted by Nic Raine.

André Previn Known as a successful classical conductor, jazz pianist, and composer of jazz, classical, and film music, André Previn frequently bridged the gap between popular and so-called "serious" music, and in doing so broadened the horizons of both. A German-American who fled Nazi Germany with his family in his youth, he went on to win four Academy Awards, all for his work on film musicals in late '50s and '60s, including his adaptation of My Fair Lady (1964). By the '70s, he had established himself as one of the world's leading classical conductors, with terms at the London Symphony Orchestra (1968-1979), Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra (1976-1984), and Royal Philharmonic Orchestra (1985-1992). He also served as music director of the Los Angeles Philharmonic from 1985 to 1989. During his tenure at the LSO, the BBC series André Previn's Music Hour made him household name.

Lorin Varencove Maazel was born of American parents in Neuilly, France on March 6, 1930 and the family returned to Los Angeles when Lorin was still an infant. He exhibited a remarkable ear and musical memory when very young; he had perfect pitch and sang back what he heard. He was taken at age five to study violin with Karl Moldrem. At age seven he started studying piano with Fanchon Armitage. When he became fascinated with conducting, his parents took him to symphony concerts, then arranged for him to have lessons with Vladimir Bakaleinikov, then assistant conductor of the Los Angeles Philharmonic.

In the beginning they were called the Fenways. Hailing from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, they were a major draw on the regional circuit. Spunky singles such as “Be Careful Little Girl” and “The Walk” translated into huge local hits. The Fenways also played on “You’re The One” by the Vogues, which peaked at the No. 4 spot on the nationwide charts late in 1965. But as was the story with a host of bands, they were floored by the newfangled nuances of psychedelic music, and wasted not a second altering their outlook and approach. Garbed in Nehru jackets and love beads, the Fenways switched their name to the Racket Squad in 1967, and signed a contract with the Jubilee label. During their tenure, they recorded two full-length albums for the roster, which have been scrabbled together in 1999 by Collectables Records as a solitary disc. Bonus tracks are a plus, as well as informative history of the group…

If one had to point to a single initial salvo that launched the garage rock revival movement in the 1970s and ‘80s, it would have to be the release of Nuggets: Original Artyfacts from the First Psychedelic Era 1965-1968 in 1972. Elektra Records had approached rock critic Lenny Kaye (not yet the guitarist with the Patti Smith Group) with the notion of compiling an album of great, overlooked rock tunes, but what Kaye came up with was something significantly different – an overview of the great, wild era when American bands, goaded by the British Invasion, began honing in on a tougher and more eclectic rock & roll sound, and kids were reawakened to the possibilities of two guitars, bass, and drums.
