The IPO compilation series goes back as far as the 1998 when Volume 1 was a single disc. Since then, the compilation had expanded to two discs the following year, and then three discs in 2002 for Volume 5, and it has remained a three-disc set since that time. International Pop Overthrow: Volume 25 showcases artists from around the world from different countries, doing just about every sub-genre of pop music, including power pop, pop/rock, folk/pop, psychedelic pop, garage, indie-rock, modern rock, etc., making it one of the most well-rounded compilations available to the general public. Although the International Pop Overthrow festival is essentially a showcase for unsigned bands, the compilation has featured some signed acts, and some who have gone on to be signed. These include: •Jason Falkner •Brendan Benson •Roger Joseph Manning Jr. •Peter Holsapple •Shoes Among those acts on Volume 25 include: •Van Duren & Good Question •The Cowsills •Iron City Houserockers •Fernando Perdomo When mainstream pop/rock fans are played any volume of the IPO compilations, their first response is invariably “this is great; I had no idea people were still making music like this!” Well, they certainly are, and you can find some of the best examples of it on IPO Volume 25.

Jean-Pierre Sasson (1918-1999) was a magnificent yet often overlooked figure in the history of French jazz guitar. Despite his remarkable contributions during the golden era of French jazz in the 1950s, Sasson's legacy has sadly faded from memory.

The GewandhausChor is a semi-professional mixed-voice choir which, as the philharmonic choir of the Gewandhausorchester, is maintained by the Leipzig Gewandhaus and is one of the leading choirs of its kind. He takes part in vocal symphonic concerts with the Gewandhaus Orchestra, appears with his own a cappella programs and performs with other renowned ensembles. The Gewandhauschor is a member of the Association of German Concert Choirs.

For nearly 74 years from the death of J.S. Bach in 1750 to Mendelssohn’s fifteenth birthday in 1824 the Matthäus Passion had all but disappeared. Young Mendelssohn’s prized birthday gift - a bespoke a copy of the Passion - was to change music history when five years later he mounted its first performance in the nineteenth century in Berlin. Today it is inconceivable to imagine music without Bach, but in the 1820s his music had been relegated to no more than the exercise-book for students of counterpoint.

Seiji Ozawa, born of Japanese parents in Manchuria, began music lessons at the age of seven. At 16 he entered the Toho School of Music in Tokyo, intending to pursue a career as a professional pianist. He abandoned that plan after breaking both of his index fingers in a rugby game. It was then that he turned to conducting and composition. While still a student Ozawa gained podium experience with professional ensembles, including the NHK Symphony Orchestra and the Japan Philharmonic. He graduated in 1959 with first prizes in conducting and composition and traveled to Europe to pursue further studies.
