This two-disc set combines two of the finest albums by this leading New Wave of British Heavy Metal group, and adds a few choice live versions of tracks from their best-selling Wheels of Steel to boot. [~ Eduardo Rivadavia, All Music Guide]
Another album, another flop and the members of Saxon decided to make another return to more commercial territory. Destiny is typical late 80's sleek pop metal of the lowest quality…
"After their first significant hiatus, the members of Saxon (including new drummer Nigel Glockler) returned to the studio to work on Power and the Glory, an album which sounds like it was recorded in a tin can, albeit a very large one. The title track shows some promise, but it's all downhill from there, culminating in the 6- minute plus, strangely prog-metal sounds of The Eagle Has Landed. There is also a noticeable lyrical shift towards "dungeons and dragons" themes, though the band had the sense of retaining at least one song about bikes in "Redline." Packing an armory of steel-coated riffs and songwriting swagger, British hard rock legends SAXON will release their 19th studio album titled "Call To Arms" "This is probably the best album we've written and recorded in the last 20 years," states Biff Byford unapologetically. "I know a lot of bands say that, but 'Call To Arms' really does feel like that to me. It's the perfect embrace of our past with a great modern edge."
