Golden Moments covers Jill Scott's 2000-2007 studio recordings for Hidden Beach. The label, launched in 2000 with Who Is Jill Scott?, was celebrating its 15th anniversary when this anthology was released. Meanwhile, Scott was still going strong, between the second and third singles from the follow-up to her 2011 album, Light of the Sun. The compilers here could have gone the easy route and simply sequenced these songs in chronological order. Golden Moments instead takes the shape of a smartly paced overview that jumps from album to album and shifts from mood to mood.

Scott Bradlee is an American musician, pianist, composer, and arranger. He is known for his viral videos on YouTube, including his work under the moniker Postmodern Jukebox. Clearly, so does everyone else, as evidenced by PMJ’s presence on concert stages (stateside and abroad) and Billboard’s Jazz Albums chart, where its self-released 2014 opus “Historical Misappropriation” landed in the Top 10 alongside John Coltrane’s “Offering: Live at Temple University” and “All Rise: A Joyful Elegy for Fats Waller.”

On his buoyant 2018 album Still Dreaming, Joshua Redman evokes the spirit of his late father, saxophonist Dewey Redman (who died in 2006), and the elder Redman's adventurous work with longtime friend and bandleader Ornette Coleman. Specifically, the younger Redman draws inspiration from Coleman's Old and New Dreams band, which also featured his father along with cornetist Don Cherry, drummer Ed Blackwell, and bassist Charlie Haden. An outgrowth of Coleman's earlier '60s quartet, Old and New Dreams (which was active from 1976 to 1987) was a boundary-pushing ensemble rife with bluesy lyricism, atonal harmonics, and frenetic swing.

American top pianist Kenny Werner and Scandinavian star saxophonist Benjamin Koppel have become musical brothers through 15 years of ongoing frequent musical collaboration. Their duo album WALDEN was highly acclaimed, as has their long line of other releases, including COALITION with Lionel Loueke and FREEBOP with David Liebman.
