The 5.6.7.8's formed in Tokyo in 1986. The band embraces retro American hot rod culture and a rockabilly breed of garage rock that shares ascetics with the Cramps. The band has a maintained a strong cult following since their incept, but has never catered to the mainstream. They play a mixture of cover versions and originals, always fraught with style and attitude. Despite only releasing albums on indie labels, and selling in modest quantities, they have fans all over the world and have toured internationally since 1992. Through their extensive touring they are in touch with many like-minded bands and labels, and their tracks can be found on many compilations.

Seriously catchy jailbait power pop from Detroit, Nikki Corvette mixed punk thump with girl-group innocence and 1960s pop jangle to create a genuinely timeless sound. Though she's never cracked the charts in any way during their brief existence in the late '70s/early '80s, her sound can be heard all over the various pop-tinged punk acts of the '90s and 2000s… Currently this collection includes the albums: "Nikki and The Corvettes", "Wild Record Party", "Back To Detroit", "Rebellious Love Emergency", and lat to date project "Nikki And The Romeos".

It is one of many that populates Kurt Cobain's Journals, published posthumously in 2002, which detail the bands that the author was listening to and which provide an insight into the music that shaped Nirvana's sound. Then again, spend any amount of time with any member of Nirvana and the conversation soon turned to music in animated terms. While the band themselves struggled with the dehumanising influence that came with global superstardom, as individuals they never lost their passion for music itself. That said, there were moments of guilt-tripping brought on by an adhesion to an almost impractical punk rock code, the rules of which were often reductive and which Kurt himself realised where there to be broken…

Since the historiography of punk is a male-dominated one, a "Revenge of the She-Punks" was long overdue. This feminist reckoning was written by none other than post-punk pioneer Vivien Goldman, who has an insider's perspective due to her work as a musician and one of Britian's first female music writers. Along four themes - Identity, Money, Love and Protest - the "punk professor" traces empowering moments that punk holds especially for women. This Compilation is inspired by the book, which was originally released by University of Texas Press in 2019.
