This CD is a compilation of The 5.6.7.8's early tracks & rare singles.
The 5.6.7.8's formed in Tokyo in 1986. The band embraces retro American hot rod culture and a rockabilly breed of garage rock that shares ascetics with the Cramps. The band has a maintained a strong cult following since their incept, but has never catered to the mainstream. They play a mixture of cover versions and originals, always fraught with style and attitude. Despite only releasing albums on indie labels, and selling in modest quantities, they have fans all over the world and have toured internationally since 1992. Through their extensive touring they are in touch with many like-minded bands and labels, and their tracks can be found on many compilations.
The Selectionz is a Japanese indie-pop/punk band formed in 2009, in Ibaraki. This is their first full-length album. "This is the REAL NATURAL indie power pop rock that should be set a high valuation now". "It is absolutely must-have for the fans of The Automatics and Shonen Knife".
This extra-special two-hour demented punk extravaganza is an audio oddity unlike anything else! An eclectic mix of artists from the world of classic and contemporary punk/indie/alt-rock have assembled, along with special guest stars from film, TV and more, to pay homage to radio icon Dr. Demento (a world-renowned institution who has championed novelty music and its creators since the 1970s), for this mind-blowing compilation.
Since the historiography of punk is a male-dominated one, a "Revenge of the She-Punks" was long overdue. This feminist reckoning was written by none other than post-punk pioneer Vivien Goldman, who has an insider's perspective due to her work as a musician and one of Britian's first female music writers. Along four themes - Identity, Money, Love and Protest - the "punk professor" traces empowering moments that punk holds especially for women. This Compilation is inspired by the book, which was originally released by University of Texas Press in 2019.
