Cellist Jacqueline du Pre is joined by the Chicago Symphony Orchestra conducted by Daniel Barenboim for this 1970 recording of Dvorak’s Cello Concerto in B minor, Op. 104. At a young age, cellist Jacqueline du Pre achieved mainstream popularity. She is regarded as one of the most distinctive cellists of the last half of the 20th century. Her career was cut short by a diagnosis of multiple sclerosis which stopped her performances at the age of 27. This release was recorded November 11, 1970 at the Medinah Temple in Chicago du Pre and contains Dvorak’s 3 movements: Allegro, Adagio ma non troppo and Finale: Allegro Moderato as well as the additional piece of music Silent Woods, Op. 68.

Norwegian rock history contains many hidden gems with releases that not many people know about, or remember. In the 80s and the beginning of the following decade, there were many young promising talents who were given the opportunity to release their music on seven inches (and a few on CD singles). In many cases it was only with this one release, and it is high time to dust these off. Rock Of Norway and C+C Records/Norwegian album classics hereby present a collection of rare singles within the genres AOR and melodious hard rock, the vast majority on CD for the first time. We have selected 18 singles which will be found on a double CD. The collection's title reflects a desire to follow up with further such releases if the concept were to be a success, as there is more material to take off.

"This book's real strength is in what it suggests about our desire (and perhaps need) to bear witness to war's horrors."-Booklist

"An examination of the seminal works of World War II, many of which opened eyes to truth by eyewitnesses." -Kirkus

"World War II and its consequences will not leave our consciousness and sense of civilization; the question of the circumstances under which the best writers made their voices heard remains as urgent today as it ever was. John R. Carpenter is to be congratulated on his detailed and courageous refutation of the often heard saw that in wartime, the Muses are silent. His book belongs in all academic as well as public collections." -Emery George, poet and editor of Contemporary East European Poetry

"John Carpenter's Bearing Witness is the story of writing, and the urgency of communication, during World War II. This fascinating and engaging account discusses work from many nations and touches on a wide variety of examples, from sophisticated literature to scrawled notes thrown by prisoners from trains. The pages dealing with the war's role in fostering distrust of rhetoric, euphemism, and abstraction are especially timely in this era of marketing and political newspeak." -Philip Fried, poet and editor of the Manhattan Review

It has been said that during times of war, the Muses fall silent. However, anyone who has read the major figures of mid-20th-century literature - Samuel Beckett, Richard Hillary, Norman Mailer, Albert Camus, Jean-Paul Sartre, and others - can attest it was through writing that people first tried to communicate and process the horrors they saw during one of the darkest times in human history, even as it broke out and raged on around them.

Witness the birth of a new kind of documentary, as legendary diver, conservationist and filmmaker Jacques Cousteau takes you deep beneath the waves to explore a wealth of life that was previously hidden from view. As much of the technology for shooting film underwater was developed by Cousteau’s team, this was the first time such amazing sights could be captured on film. The result, a Technicolor 1950s masterpiece, succeeds both in revealing an untouched world of beauty, life and drama, as well as evoking a sense of adventure, freedom and boundless possibility…..
