The most successful folk-rock duo of the 1960s, Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel crafted a series of memorable hit albums and singles featuring their choirboy harmonies, ringing acoustic and electric guitars, and Simon's acute, finely wrought songwriting. The pair always inhabited the more polished end of the folk-rock spectrum and was sometimes criticized for a certain collegiate sterility. Many also feel that Simon, as both a singer and songwriter, didn't truly blossom until he began his own hugely successful solo career in the 1970s. But the best of S&G's work can stand among Simon's best material, and the duo did progress musically over the course of their five albums, moving from basic folk-rock productions into Latin rhythms and gospel-influenced arrangements that foreshadowed Simon's eclecticism on his solo albums.

Paul Simon et Art Garfunkel , le duo folk-rock ayant connu le plus grand succès dans les années 60, est à l’origine d’une série d’albums et de singles mémorables mêlant des chœurs de petits chanteurs, des guitares électriques et acoustiques éclatantes et les textes précis et ciselés de Simon. D’aucuns considèrent que Simon, tant sur le plan de la chanson que de la composition, ne s’épanouit réellement qu’en débutant sa carrière solo en 1970, qui lui vaudra un immense succès. Mais les meilleurs opus de Simon & Garfunkel n’ont rien à envier aux meilleurs titres de Simon, et le duo progresse musicalement tout au long des cinq albums qu’ils produisent, évoluant de leurs morceaux folk-rock de base vers des rythmes plus latino et des arrangements inspirés du gospel.

Simon & Garfunkel were an American singer-songwriter duo consisting of Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel. They formed the group "Tom and Jerry" in 1957, and had their first taste of success with the minor hit "Hey, Schoolgirl". As Simon and Garfunkel, the duo rose to fame in 1965, backed by the hit single "The Sounds of Silence". Their music was featured in the landmark film The Graduate, propelling them further into the public consciousness.
