The young debutante whom legendary Herbert von Karajan took under his wing at the end of the 1970s has become one the most popular instrumentalists of her time and a true icon of the violin. This collection provides a vast overview of Anne-Sophie Mutter’s artistry from Bach to Prokofiev, featuring such great musicians as Seiji Ozawa, Mstislav Rostropovich, Alexis Weissenberg and Riccardo Muti.

La Nuova Musica presents a new live recording of Gluck’s Orfeo ed Euridice, with countertenor star Iestyn Davies singing the title role. Once created to reinstate the “noble simplicity and calm grandeur” of ancient Greek culture, the opera continues to delight audiences with its direct and unpretentious appeal, epitomized by the world-famous aria Che farò senza Euridice. This live recording presents the original 1762 Vienna premiere version of the opera, with Gluck’s exquisite evocation of the Elysian Fields from his 1774 Paris version as a small addition.

Destined to be musicians? The female composers to whom Baroque violinist Sophie de Bardonnèche pays tribute enjoyed very different fates: while the name Élisabeth Jacquet de La Guerre (1665-1729) continued to be remembered, who knows Mlle Duval (born around 1718), the second woman to have a work presented at the Paris Opéra and nicknamed ‘la Légende’ in her time? Her opera-ballet, Les Génies, remains a testament to her great mastery.

This recording of works for violin and piano/orchestra by Krzysztof Penderecki marks and celebrates the long and fruitful cooperation and friendship between Anne-Sophie Mutter and Krzysztof Penderecki on the occasion of his 85th birthday on 23 November 2018.

The French and Italian Renaissance song repertoire, immortalised during the first three decades of the sixteenth century by the printed editions of Pierre Attaingnant in Paris and Ottaviano Petrucci in Venice, invites audiences, and in former times performers, to immerse themselves in a world in which memories of medieval courtly poetry, the austerity (as reimagined in the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries) of ancient lamentations, and a fully polyphonic narrative style, were all collided and superimposed-a certain sense of conversation can remind us also of the French air de cour as well as the early Italian madrigal form.

A puzzling paradox: although Vivaldi devoted over 30 years to composing for the Ospedale della Pietà in Venice, no complete musical setting of any liturgy by him has come down to us.

In June 2023, star violinist Anne-Sophie Mutter gave an impressive concert in Vienna with her Virtuosi ensemble. Based on this, a varied album has now been created, with music by Antonio Vivaldi, J. S. Bach, Joseph Bologne, André Previn and John Williams. 'Growing up, I'm on the trail of storytellers,' Mutter says of her work with the Virtuosi, a rotating ensemble of current and former Anne-Sophie Mutter Foundation scholarship holders.
