Take musicians, stir in a jazz funk base, simmer and you’ve got a SONIC STEW! Patrick Butler's Stew philosophy of building up from a base of drums, percussion and electric bass, the crew never really knows what the outcome will be. All the stalwarts are back – and, as usual, proved themselves major pains in the posterior for the long-suffering engineer who somehow made it all work. Thanks Man!

Heat is the fifth album since Shake Stew's formation in 2016 and delivers probably the most diverse overall impression of their musical range to date. For the first time in the band's history, there was a personnel change in the horn section at the beginning of 2021, where the Austrian alto saxophonist Astrid Wiesinger took over the position from Clemens Salesny. The addition of Wiesinger has given the band an injection of new energy and we can hear the electricity buzzing on each track.

After "The Golden Fang" (2017) and "Rise and Rise Again" (2018) featuring Shabaka Hutchings, Shake Stew will release their third studio album "Gris Gris".

SHAKE STEW is Austria‘s jazz band of the hour. After playing more than 25 gigs during the first months since premiering at Jazzfestival Saalfelden 2016 and selling out their first record „The Golden Fang“ within half a year, the unique septet is conquering the music world with a hypnotic mixture of afrobeat and jazz grooves shaken up by the intense and mysterious soundscapes created with a combination of two drummers and two double bass players! With „Rise And Rise Again“ Shake Stew are releasing their highly anticipated second album in May 2018, which also features Shabaka Hutchings on 2 of the tracks. Everywhere they went so far, the press has been more than enthusiastic, often trying to create new terms and genre-labels to put their live experiences into words and this new release will only further establish their status as one of Europe's most upcoming Jazzbands.

Austrian band Shake Stew, led by the formidable bassist Lukas Kranzelbinder, release their sixth album 'Lila'. To say that they've been on a roll since their inception in 2016 would be an understatement. With an enviable collection of awards already behind them, this year they were awarded Amadeus Austrian Music Award 2023: no mean feat as it's the first instrumental act in 20 years to win in the Jazz/World/Blues category since Joe Zawinul won with Faces & Places. The band's unusual configuration of 2 drummers, 2 bass players and 3 horns remains, as does the line up of Johannes Schleiermacher, Mario Rom and Astrid Wiesinger making up the wind section with Nikolaus Dolp and Herbert Pirker on drums and Lukas Kranzelbinder and Oliver Potratz on bass.

Take a Cadillac ride through the Southern States and you’ll hear a thousand flavours of music on the breeze. Listen to Neckbone Stew and you’ll hear them expertly stirred into one record. “It’s a mixture of all the spices and good stuff you’ll find in most Southern kitchens,” says the award-winning US bluesman Big Daddy Wilson. “To make a good stew, you need a little bit of everything, and this was the idea I went with for my new CD. A beautiful mélange of blues, spiritual, roots, soul and reggae. I just felt like mixing it up this time.” Released in 2017 on Ruf Records, Neckbone Stew is the latest twist in a fascinating life story.
