A return look and listen to this historical and breathtaking collaboration between two of the great figures of modern music should naturally be prefaced by a few key facts. Although this album presents itself as the soundtrack to the film The Hot Spot, like many such releases it bares little relation to the music that was actually used in the film — not that much of this music was actually used. All one really needs to know about the film itself, other than the fact that it was directed by Dennis Hopper, is that it is awful, even by bad film standards. That it was the impetus for this marvelous music to be made is something listeners should be thankful for, particularly fans of either Miles Davis or John Lee Hooker

The sounds on this soundtrack come from the mighty Commodore 64 itself. This computer, released in 1982, came with a state of the art soundchip - the MOS technologies SID. Far ahead of its competition it sported advanced functions like waveforms with Pulse Width Modulation, envelope generators and a filter. Joseph Trapanese (Oblivion, Straight Outta Compton, Insurgent) has recently recorded his score for the upcoming action adventure Robin Hood. The film is directed by Otto Barhurst (Peaky Blinders) and stars Taron Egerton in the title role, Jamie Foxx as Little John, Eve Hewson as Maid Marian, Ben Mendelsohn as the as well as the Sheriff of Nottingham, as well as Jamie Dornan, Paul Anderson and Tim Minchin. The movie tells the origin story of Robin Hood being a war-hardened crusader and joining with a Moorish commander in an audacious revolt against the corrupt English crown. Joby Harold (King Arthur: Legend of the Sword, Awake) wrote the screenplay and is also producing the Leonardo DiCaprio & Jennifer Davisson (The Revenant, Out of the Furnace), Basil Iwanyk (The Town, John Wick, Sicario) and Tory Tunnell (Underground). Robin Hood is set to be released on November 21, 2018 by Summit Entertainment/Lionsgate.
