It’s Fender Jaguar guitars ahoy on the new release “Death by Fender” by a Duluth quartet called the Fractals.
Led by the talented axe-wielding duo of Jimi Cooper and Barry Pirkola, the Fractals draw on the seminal sound of the Ventures and surf guitar god Dick Dale, then combine that with the sonic rumblings of the legendary Link Wray and the British rock of the early Who to come up with a sound that is referenceable as well as their own…
Quartet Records, Gruppo Sugar and Cinevox are proud to present an exclusive four disc box set featuring music from the classics films of Michelangelo Antonioni – featuring music by Giovanni Fusco (L’avventura, L’eclisse, Il deserto rosso) and Giorgio Gaslini (La notte). Antonioni: Suoni del Silenzio includes four CDs for four films from the director’s early Italian masterpieces commonly referred to as the “Lack of Communication Cinema.” The series begins with L’avventura, the harrowing tale about a missing woman whose disappearance leads to a new and conflicted romance between her man and her best friend. The music by Giovanni Fusco is a spirited reflection upon the Southern Italian setting, including the breathtaking final shot at Taormina. The collection includes all the original music used in the film, plus several previously unreleased alternate takes.
Surf music is alive and well in 2012. It's not just a '60s thing, and we're not talking about the Beach Boys or Jan & Dean. This is instrumental rock and roll at its finest – instrumental rock and roll that conjures images of surfing.
Mixing '60s surf classics with contemporary retro efforts in the style isn't a great idea. It doesn't sink this surf compilation, though, because surf revivalists only occupy about a third of the disc; the rest include classics, or at least interesting obscurities, by the Bobby Fuller Four, the Lively Ones, Link Wray, the Centurions, the Sentinals, and others.
The Reverb Syndicate was formed in late-2005 in Ottawa, Canada with the simple concept of exploring and re-imagining the music of groups from The Ventures to Shadowy Men On A Shadowy Planet via the soundtracks of old spy movies. This concept has led them to four independently-released albums, heavy gigging throughout Ontario and Quebec, recurring gigs in New York City, and two UK tours. In 2006, they introduced the masses to their blend of sixties spy movie music and classic surf rock with their debut album, "Operation: Jet Set!". In 2007, they blasted off into the stars with the space-themed "Sputnik A-Go-Go". In 2011, it was back to the wild west with "Mondo Cacti", where spaghetti westerns reign supreme.
