Like his early hero Miles Davis, Polish trumpeter Tomasz Stanko has a gift for shaping great bands, and this one, formed in the world’s jazz capital, overflows with promise. The bass and drums team of Thomas Morgan and Gerald Cleaver is one of the most sensitive in contemporary improvising, and Cuban-born pianist David Virelles, inspired by ritual music as well as by Thelonious Monk and Andrew Hill, seems particularly well-attuned to the brooding darkness and sophisticated dread of Stanko’s free ballads. In the uptempo pieces all four players seem to enter new territory, with very exciting results.

Da qualche tempo, Andrea Camilleri lancia dei personalissimi "segnali di fumo". Sono foglietti di poche righe cui lo scrittore affida, in totale libertà, quello che gli suggerisce l'estro del momento. Ma che cosa "segnala" Camilleri? Intanto, molta partecipazione per le nostre vicende politiche: soprattutto indignazione per l'assenza di etica, la corruzione, la volgarità, il populismo becero, gli insulti di troppi "politici senza onore" che hanno prodotto fame, disoccupazione, scontro sociale, impoverimento del Paese. Poi, il gusto mai perduto del racconto disteso, dell'aneddoto divertente e rivelatore. Il piacere degli incontri con personaggi del tutto sconosciuti o trattati esattamente alla stessa stregua - famosi come Wislawa Szymborska e il presidente argentino Alfonsìn. Le letture che durano da una vita (Pirandello, Vittorini, Malraux, Philip Roth, Tabucchi) e che suggeriscono alcune sobrie e per niente retoriche considerazioni sull'arte dello scrivere.
