The first album released worldwide by Virgin Records, "Phaedra", was recorded in less than three weeks. The title originates from the Greek myth of Phaedra, the daughter of Minos and Ariadne's sister. She committed suicide after her stepson refused her advances. The album is divided into four compositions: two credited to the group, one each to Edgar Froese and Peter Baumann.
After Steve Jolliffe had left the group, Edgar Froese and Chris Franke recorded the album "Force Majeure", originally issued on transparent vinyl. Klaus Krüger played drums again before changing to the band of Iggy Pop.
Following "Stratosfear", the album developed Tangerine Dream's further evolution toward the more melodic sound they would adopt in the 1980s. For example, "Cloudburst Flight", is more of the tradition of progressive rock than the band's 1970s output of Berlin School.
"Force Majeure" was critically acclaimed and went Top 30 in the UK. Up to now this album is one of the most famous among Tangerine Dream fans.
"White Eagle" is an album of electronic music released by Tangerine Dream in 1982. It reached No.57 in the UK album chart in a 5-week run.
"Stratosfear" is an electronic music album released in 1976 by Tangerine Dream. It marks the beginning of the band's development away from their uncompromising early 1970s synthesizer experiments toward a recognizably more melodic sound, a trend they would pick up again in 1979's "Force Majeure". The title track "Stratosfear" has been played live many times and has been released in a re-mixed form on a number of other albums.
Tangerine Dream's 1995 studio album "Tyranny Of Beauty" follows the stylistic tradition of its predecessors. The track "Stratosfear 1995" is a new recording of the 1976 composition basing on an idea of Jerome Froese. "Largo (from Xerxes)" is a classical adaption of Georg Friedrich Händel (1685-1759).
Force Majeure is the twelfth album by the German group Tangerine Dream, originally issued on transparent vinyl. Following Stratosfear, the album developed Tangerine Dream's further evolution toward the more melodic sound they would adopt in the 1980s, with a heavier presence of guitars, drums and distinct musical suites in the tradition of progressive rock, rather than the band's 1970s output of Berlin School.
Cyclone is the eleventh album by Tangerine Dream and the first in their canon to feature proper vocals and lyrics. The cover is a painting by band leader Edgar Froese. Cyclone reached number 37 on the UK charts. 'Cyclone' is a very different album within the Tangerine Dream discography. Lead vocals on a TD album ?? Very unusual. And a solid drummer playing the kit in 'rock' mode !! The fact is, vocals are supplied by an amazing gent by the name of Steve Jolliffe, who also contributes some excellent flutes, lyricons and cor anglais (as well as more keyboards) to the incredible keyboard/synth creations presented here.
"Tangram" is a 1980 album of electronic music by Tangerine Dream. It became their fifth biggest selling album, reaching #36 in the British Top 40, and spending 5 weeks on the chart.
At a turning point between two eras, "Tangram" contains fond glimpses back at the "classic long-form sequencer" period and also contains foreshadows of the "new age melodic short track" period to come. It introduced new member Johannes Schmoelling, re-establishing the band as a keyboard trio.
