Most of us know Lalo Schifrin for his jazz music and scores to Dirty Harry and Bullitt. That's how I first became aware of him and found other scores of his over the years that are completely different. THX 1138 is definitely one of those scores. Sure there are some jazz cues in here but mostly this score is more laid back, in a sense that is underscores the forbidden romance and mystery of the world this movie projects.
Finisterre are an Italian progressive rock band that formed in Genoa in April 1993. Their music is an eclectic mix of styles and they have spawned a significant number of offshoots. The original line-up consisted of Fabio Zuffanti (bass, vocals), Stefano Marelli (guitars, vocals), Boris Valle (keyboards), Marco Cavani (drums) and Sergio Grace (flute). They released their self-titled debut album, widely regarded as a classic of modern Italian symphonic progressive music, in January 1995. Cavani and Grace subsequently quit the band during 1995. Along with their replacements, Francesca Biagini (flute) and Marcelo Mazzocchi (drums), Finisterre produced their second and arguably best album ''In Limine'' (1996). Years before Trent Rezner-inspired horror music began to appear within the soundtracks of big-budget serial killer flicks, Skinny Puppy founder cEvin Key laid the frightening electronic groundwork that would influence Nine Inch Nails and a whole generation of industrial artists. Key, along with fellow Skinny Puppy member D.R. Goettel, formed the side project Doubting Thomas around 1990 in order to delve more specifically into instrumental "soundtracks for movies that never existed."
