Guns N' Roses are the bridge separating 1980s and 1990s hard rock, the band responsible for ushering in an era of grim, gritty rock & roll. Where such peers as Mötley Crüe reveled in the decadence of Sunset Strip sleaze, Guns N' Roses focused on the grimy underbelly of the urban jungle, with guitarists Slash and Izzy Stradlin cranking out mean riffs that matched the dark fantasies of Axl Rose, the vocalist who led GNR with a serpentine charm. Rose countered his nasty tendencies with a romantic side, one that flourished on "Sweet Child O' Mine," the soaring ballad that went to number one in 1988, turning the band into superstars in the process.

The latter recording was released on videotape and LP formats in 1985 by Polydor Records of Japan. The five additional tracks are from the American Stars of Jazz TV program hosted by Bobby Troup. The songs are taken from two sessions broadcast in 1956 and 1957.

Joining vocalist ROGER CHAPMAN and guitarist CHARLIE WHITNEY in the sessions were such luminaries as bassists JOHN WETTON, RIC GRECH, drummers MIKE GILES and IAN WALLACE, keyboard player MAX MIDDLETON and saxophonist MEL COLLINS. This new expanded 50th Anniversary edition of this classic album has been newly remastered from the master tapes and also includes seven bonus tracks comprising ‘The Crack’, a rare single B-side, a previously unreleased mix of ‘Call Ya’ and a complete BBC Radio 1 John Peel session from June 1974.

"One of several fine live dates recorded in the twilight of Stephane Grappelli's long career, this concert has few surprises. The repertoire is fairly standard for the violinist, accompanied by the always enjoyable guitarist Marc Fossett, bassist Jean-Philippe Viret, with the trio occasionally augmented by accordion player Marcel Azzola. (…) One can never have enough Stephane Grappelli, especially on stage." ~allmusic
