The centrepiece of this album of piano works by Fazıl Say is his Troy Sonata. Say gave its premiere in August 2018 in the Turkish city of Çanakkale, near the historical site of Troy itself. “There are not many purely musical works on the subject of Troy,” explains Say, “so I have endeavoured to express all the dramatic features of this magical legend through the language of music.” As the Turkish magazine Andante wrote, the 10-movement sonata “is composed around a structure just as epic as its subject”.

For Troy Roberts, a New York Australian, it has become a good tradition to give listeners a new album every year. 2019 was no exception. Unlike previous works, Tales & Tones (2017) and Nu Jive Perspective (2018), published by Inner Circle Music, his new album, Like Like, was released under the logo of Toy Robot Music, the musician's label, whose title is very transparent in its initials. The difference is more significant: this time Troy preferred the trio format, moreover the organ trio. In three tracks, he is played by the outstanding master of the electric organ, Joey DeFranchesko, in whose ensemble Troy has been playing for four years, and in the rest - the young, talented, but so far less famous Emmett Cohen, whom Roberts met in Miami when Emmett was a university student, where Troy taught. Behind the drum kit on all the tracks is another Roberts “employer,” the highly experienced Jeff Thane Watts, with whom Roberts has been playing for five years.

Very good CCM AOR, very relaxing album indeed. Troy Werner is a well-respected Producer/ songwriter/ musician, reminds me of Joseph Williams(Toto fame)and Michael W. Smith(CCM artist also)… musically very alike to Smith too… this album is mainly comprised of ballads and softies but also has some dosages of Hi-Tech AOR. The catchy opening tune of “Different” among with the touchy ballad “Ready Or Not” and the rocking “Live For Today” that is a totally catchy song are the best moments on this record…. A bit hard to find it in nowdays but worth the try….
