Village of Stars

A small village off the mainland is about to receive a huge winter storm. It won't be just another storm for them. A strange visitor named Andre Linoge comes to the small village and gives the residents havoc. He knows everything about them, and when he tells the truth about one of them, that person denies it. The town constable, Mike Anderson, tries to keep everyone in check with the huge storm and Linoge. Linoge keeps telling the people, "Give me what I want and I will go away"…

The series (11 episodes) tells the story of the village Schabbach, on the Hunsrueck in Germany through the years 1919-1982. Central person is Maria, who we see growing from a 17 year old girl to an old woman, and her family. The family, like the rest of the German people live through the crises after WW-I, the rise and fall of Nazism and WW-II, and the rebuilding and the following prosperity of the village (as a symbol for the whole country) after WW II.

Humphrey Bogart stars in this melodrama-spiced adventure tale about an American flyer in civil-war torn 1947 China, hiding out from a ruthless warlord (Lee J. Cobb) by assuming the identity of a slain priest in a remote mission settlement. There, he loses his heart to his needy flock of villagers and to the lovely mission nurse (Gene Tierney), a devout Catholic tormented by her taboo attraction to this putative man of the cloth.
