At the top of 2020 – a year that began like any other but ended like none other – Matthew Robert Cooper’s Eluvium moniker unveiled a new ambient album series built around generative music and long-form loops. Intended as a minor, limited-edition stop-gap between proper albums, Virga I unexpectedly became a balm for many in a year of overwhelming anxiety and uncertainty.

Virga I is the first album in a new ambient music series by Eluvium. Matthew Cooper, the composer behind the Eluvium moniker, explains: “I had recently been playing around with various forms of generative music and long-format looping – as well as practicing patience interacting with musical systems and recordings – hesitantly dueting with them, trying to keep things minimal while also encouraging as much depth as possible. It was really just something fun to privately experiment with for personal gain.

Virga is an observable streak of precipitation falling from a cloud that evaporates or sublimates before reaching the ground; categorized in Cirrus (higher and thinner), Nimbus, (dense but not too low) and Stratus (thick and low) this package will give you the ultimate freedom to compose and layer atmospheric textures.
