Somewhat unexpectedly, baritone Matthias Goerne has emerged as one of the rising Wagnerian singers of our time, making something of a transition from the art song repertoire of Schubert and Schumann to music drama in a series of important recordings, including appearing as Wotan in Jaap van Zweden's Ring cycle on Naxos. For this 2017 Harmonia Mundi release, Goerne joins Daniel Harding and the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra in The Wagner Project, a double-disc sampler of vocal and orchestral highlights from Richard Wagner's Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg, Tristan und Isolde, Der fliegende Holländer, Tannhäuser, Parsifal, and of course, Der Ring des Nibelungen.

Uri Caine, like many other jazz players, has a fairly solid background in classical music. Unlike many jazz players, he has found a way to successfully work in the classical repertoire while using improvisation and love of a variety of musical styles he came by as a jazz player. To that end, Caine has released a handful of stunningly original albums covering the music of Mahler, Schumann, Bach, and Wagner. While Caine's critically acclaimed Mahler (Urlicht/Primal Light) and Bach (Goldberg Variations) discs have featured him, at times, radically reworking the material, this fine Wagner program finds the pianist sticking mostly to the original scores.

Decca has pulled together a blockbuster collection of many of opera's greatest hits from the standard repertoire. The selection is heavily weighted to the nineteenth century, and to Italian operas, but it does indeed offer a generous sampling of what the general public understands as the staples of the repertoire. It includes one Baroque aria, from Handel's Rodelinda, and several from the Classical era - two arias from Gluck's Orfeo ed Eurydice, and seven from Mozart's operas - and the rest range from the bel canto of Rossini to the verismo of Cilea and Puccini. The selection is primarily made up of arias, but includes ensembles, choruses, and orchestral excerpts.

Tenor Daniel Behle and two of his favourite composers: Strauss & Wagner. Richard Wagner and Richard Strauss are the two great musical fixed stars in the musical world of tenor Daniel Behle. At the 2021 Bayreuth Festival he was heard as David in the "Meistersinger", in Dortmund and soon in Amsterdam he will be heard in the title role of "Lohengrin".

This 3-disc-set was exclusively sold to members of the Bertelsmann Club, a german Book sales club. A celebration of the birthday of the vienna opera. The Wiener Staatsoper is one of the busiest opera houses in the world producing 50 to 60 operas per year and ten ballet productions in approximately 300 performances. It is quite common to find a different opera being produced each day of a week. As such, the Staatsoper employs over 1000 people. As of 2008, the annual operating budget of the Staatsoper was 100 million Euros with slightly more than 50% coming in the form of a state subsidy.

The West-Eastern Divan Orchestra, a symbol of tolerance and understanding between people, opens with Jörg Widman’s Con brio and are then joined by the legendary Martha Argerich for Franz Liszt’s Piano Concerto No. 1. The extraordinary concert is completed with popular excerpts from Wagner’s Tannhäuser, Meistersinger and Ring der Nibelungen.

The Wagner year 2013 brought something special to the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra's concert schedule. The RCO pulled out all the stops with a full performance of this Wagner opera in concert version. Busy carving out an impressive career for himself and making his fifth appearance at Bayreuth last summer, Andris Nelsons has certainly earned his spurs as a Wagner specialist. He is led the RCO and a cast of international soloists in 'Der fliegende Holländer', an opera about the captain of an infamous Dutch ghost ship who can be freed only by a woman who consents to marry him.
