In 1987, Nathaniel Nyok, tormented by thoughts of missing parents and siblings, fled a bloody scene and a burning village in Sudan. Wishing to live at any cost and driven by a confrontational heart-pounding fear, he journeyed through the wild to seek sanctuary in Ethiopia. At eight, he had just capitulated to an orphan-like life with a new title, A Lost Boy of Sudan, living in a refugee camp for 14 years without a family and a future. The refugee camp became a cage that was too confining, and he languished with a sense of loss.

The Infamous Stringdusters est l'un des groupes de bluegrass les plus populaires de sa génération. Formé à Nashville (Tennessee), en 2006, il réunit les musiciens Andy Hall (dobro), Chris Pandolfi (banjo), Jeremy Garrett (violon), Travis Book (contrebasse), Chris Eldridge (guitare) et Jesse Cobb (mandoline). Signé par le label Sugar Hill Records, le groupe enregistre Fork in the Road (2007), récompensé par deux IBMA Awards, puis The Infamous Stringdusters (2008). Après le départ de Chris Eldridge, Things That Fly (2010) est soutenue par les participations de Dierks Bentley et Sarah Siskind. L'un de ses titres, « Magic #9 », est nommé aux Grammy Awards. En 2011, c'est au tour de Jesse Cobb de quitter la formation, qui recrute Andy Falco pour la tournée donnant lieu à l'album We'll Do It, sorti sous le propre label du groupe, High Country Recordings. Deux autres albums suivent sous la même étiquette, Silver Sky (2012) et Let It Go (2014), avant de commencer la série de reprises Undercover. Gear Fab Records has continued to unearth some of the most obscure '60s psychedelic sides for their massive undertaking of issuing these records region by region. It's a remarkable task, especially since so many relics from the psychedelic era have already been mined for the immensely popular Nuggets box sets, the Pebbles collections, and myriad other small-label collections. These are truly enjoyable sets of quality songs, not just the bottom of the barrel.

Sounds of the Seventies was a 40-volume series issued by Time-Life during the late 1980s and early-to-mid 1990s, spotlighting pop music of the 1970s. Much like Time-Life's other series chronicling popular music, volumes in the "Sounds of the Seventies" series covered a specific time period, including individual years in some volumes, and different parts of the decade (for instance, the early 1970s) in others; in addition, some volumes covered specific trends, such as music popular on album-oriented rock stations on the FM band.

Unlike other labels subjected to exhaustive multi-disc retrospectives like this whopping ten-disc Revolutions in Sound: Warner Bros. Records – The First Fifty Years, Warner Brothers never embodied a scene or sound: they've always embodied what a major label should be – a dominant force that chronicles and dictates the sound of the mainstream. Coming out at the tail-end of 2008, when the influence of major labels is on a slow steady decline, Revolutions in Sound can be seen as a portrait of a time that's beginning to recede into the past: a time when there was such a thing as mass entertainment, when the pop audience all shared a common bond of hit records they either loved or rallied against. Perhaps the greatest things about this monumental box set is that it captures that colossus while also illustrating that for a while, majors did take risks. Of course, Warner was the riskiest of all the majors, never held back by an anti-rock & roll sourpuss like Mitch Miller, who struggled to keep CBS out of the tumult of the '60s (this with no less than Bob Dylan as the label's flagship rock artist). Instead, Warner embraced the underground, recording some of the strangest to shake out of the '60s, and that adventure fits a label that turned to rock & roll to help establish themselves as a real player at the turn of the '60s.

Sequestered in Kentish Town to record an album with Hendrix / Slade producer Chas Chandler, in the spring of 1971 exiled American band Eggs Over Easy persuaded the landlord of local pub The Tally Ho to let them perform at the venue. Though the band were back in America by the end of the year, they inadvertently became the catalysts that sparked the pub rock revolution, with the likes of Brinsley Schwarz, Ducks Deluxe and Bees Make Honey playing a burgeoning circuit that included The Kensington in Russell Gardens, The Lord Nelson on Holloway Road and The Nashville in West Kensington.b Surrender To The Rhythm charts the origins and development of the London pub rock scene throughout the Seventies, featuring all of the aforementioned bands as well as such key names as Dr. Feelgood, Ace, Kilburn and The High Roads, Dave Edmunds, Graham Parker and Elvis Costello.
