Jean-Michel Jarre has worldwide sales of over 80 million albums over his career. 'Essential Recollection' is a brand new collection from the pioneer in electronic, ambient, and new age genres. This is only the second ever best of collection of Jarre's catalogue, the first being 'Images: The Best of,' released in 1991. Like 'Images,' Jean Michel has personally selected all of the tracks for this collection, and mixing them so that they aren't just a collection of separate tracks, rather they blend together, creating an audio adventure through his works to date.

Le Chantes Magnetiques (Magnetic Fields) was really Jarre fifth or so album, not third, since he released a couple albums before Oxygene in the early '70s (for example, Deserted Palace in 1972), and singles as far back as 1970 ("La Cage"). But since most people never heard anything he's done before Oxygene (because those albums are so hard to come by), most simply regard Oxygene as his debut. Magnetic Fields continues more or less in the same vein as Oxygene and Equinox, except now more emphases is put on rhythm. He also got himself some new digital equipment, in this case a Fairlight, which was the first digital sampler.

Originally released on Medium Productions (Karn's joint venture with ex-Japan colleagues Steve Jansen and Richard Barbieri), this uniquely adventurous and evocative selection of tracks written and arranged between 1995 and 1999 was finally released in 2001. Each Eye A Path reveals Karn at his most intimate and unfettered, Steve Jansen (who mixed the album) adds some typically tasteful drum and percussion parts.
