Every Deep Purple true lover knows how much their magic and powerful style is the result of many different influences brought in by the single members, all merging into the powerful sound loved by millions of rock fans. Ian Gillan's love for American soul and Rhythm & Blues as well as skiffle and early rock and roll has been well documented in many articles and interviews. Founded in the early 60s, The Javelins were influenced by Pop, Soul, Country, Jazz and Blues artists from America. They soaked up the music of their heroes, added their own stamp and went from town to town to perform their favourite songs in front of a small but ever growing audience – becoming local heroes themselves. This was the time when Ian Gillan discovered himself, broke the chains and ‘found his voice’.
This new video captures the blistering performances of one of rock's most notorious and revered vocalists. Legendary singer and DEEP PURPLE front man Ian Gillan took a vacation from his tour with Deep Purple to play North America during August and September of 2006…
DEEP PURPLE's Ian Gillan and BLACK SABBATH's Tony Iommi took everybody by surprise in 2011 by releasing a charity single, "Out Of My Mind", renewing the collaboration that led the pair to record an album in 1984, "Born Again", under the BLACK SABBATH moniker. For the occasion, the two rock legends called a few friends and were soon joined by Jason Newsted (METALLICA, VOIVOD, FLOTSAM AND JETSAM), Jon Lord (DEEP PURPLE) and Nicko McBrain (IRON MAIDEN). Not only jamming together for the sheer fun of things, this new project has united for a cause — rebuilding and helping the music school in Gyumari, Armenia. The single was a joyful and inspired moment. Iommi and Gillan have now decided to make WHOCARES an album for their devoted fans. Classic songs and a lot of rarities and unreleased material in two CDs of fantastic rare music.

This rarities collection concentrates on his post-Purple period with the Ian Gillan Band, which featured guitarist Ray Fenwick, bassist John Gustafson, Mike Moran on keyboards, and Mark Nauseef on drums. While IGB recorded three albums, Rarities only includes tracks from 1976's Child in Time and the following year's Scarabus release (it excludes anything from early 1977's more experimental, less hard-rocking Clear Air Turbulence).
