Bolshoi Ballet

In a testament to the Bolshoi legacy, this newly discovered film features the grace, beauty, and perfect control of Nina Timofeyeva and Mikhail Lavrovsky, son of the renowned choreographer Leonid Lavrovsky, creating a special program of solos and Pas de Deuxs. Choreographed by Mikhail Fokine as well as the dancers, this production features the timeless and diverse music of Gershwin, Saint-Saens, Albinoni, and Adam, and is full of timeless performances in the classic and elegant style of the Soviet ballet tradition. Nina Timofeyeva and Mikhail Lavrovsky, two stars of the famed Bolshoi Ballet, appear in this new-found film showing off their brilliant dance techniques and talents. This mixed program includes 1) Saint-Saens "The Dying Swan," 2) a dance medley from George Gershwin's "Porgy and Bess," 3) Albinoni's "Adagio," and 4) "Pas De Deux Classique" from Adam.

In a majestic ceremony, Siegfried is made a knight and young girls try to attract his attention, as he must choose a wife during the ball. Overcome by the sudden awareness of his future responsibilities, he escapes into the night and meets a strange flock of swans by a magical lake. White swan by day, human by night, the beautiful Odette awaits an oath of true love to break the curse on her. The great legend of the enigmatic swan/woman is one of the most romantic classical ballets, appropriately set in the era of courtly romance and characterised by elegance, style and harmony.
