The Carpenters were an American musical duo consisting of siblings Karen and Richard Carpenter. They were primarily known for their soft rock music, with Karen's smooth and distinctive vocal style being a defining characteristic of their sound. Some of their most famous songs include "Close to You," "We've Only Just Begun," and "Rainy Days and Mondays." The Carpenters achieved massive commercial success in the 1970s, winning three Grammy Awards and selling over 100 million records worldwide. Unfortunately, Karen Carpenter passed away in 1983 due to complications related to anorexia nervosa, but their music continues to be beloved by many fans around the world.

Geburtstag der deutschen Kultkrautrock-Band Bröselmaschine nahm MIG-Music zum Anlass, eine sensationelle Box mit fünf CDs und zwei DVDs zusammenzustellen, die die Historie dieser einzigartigen Gruppe von 1968 bis 2017 lückenlos dokumentiert. Die Anthologie enthält die vier Studioalben von 1971, 1972, 1977 und 1984 sowie einen Konzertmitschnitt vom Burg Herzberg Festival aus dem Jahr 2006. Das Konzert und ein Auftritt beim Rockpalast (2005) finden sich auf den beiden DVDs.

James Newton Howard was well-established as a keyboardist, songwriter, producer, and arranger in the realm of soft rock before he cemented his legacy as an A-list film and television composer during the '90s. Highlights of his rock resumé in the '70s and '80s had included touring and recording with Elton John and working on albums with the likes of Ringo Starr, Harry Nilsson, and Toto. After earning his first composing credit on the 1985 comedy Head Office, his first Academy Award nomination came with the 1991 drama The Prince of Tides. Known for delivering wistful chamber music, playful comedic fare, or alternatively ominous or high-octane orchestral music as called for, Howard became more and more in demand for the latter during the 2000s, due in part to his frequent collaborations with director M. Night Shyamalan.

Few (if any?) opera singers have also been Academy Award nominees, let alone for Best Actor. But then again, there is only one Lawrence Tibbett (1896–1960). Described as dashing, Tibbett had a career as a movie actor, radio show personality and host, with sponsors such as Packard, Firestone, and Chesterfield. He was also one of the first “crossover” artists singing Gershwin, Kern, and Porter, and was a staple at the Met. A cogent and articulate advocate for artistic causes (rare in his day), he founded the American Guild of Musical Artists with Jascha Heifetz. But first and foremost, Lawrence Tibbett was an opera singer and one of the greatest baritones of all time.
