In the summer of 1983, the world famous Marquee Club in London celebrated its silver jubilee with a two-day festival of live music. As a happy coincidence it was the same year in which Man reformed after a seven-year hiatus, and the organisers were only too happy to snap them up.
Man were one of the most promising rock bands to come out of Wales in the early '70s. Along with Brinsley Schwarz, they helped establish the core of the pub rock sound, but they played louder and also had a progressive component to their work that separated them from many of their rivals.

Baroque powerhouse Domenico Scarlatti – son of the great Alessandro Scarlatti and born in 1685, the same year as Johann Sebastian Bach and George Friderich Handel – wrote an enormous 555 keyboard sonatas. These were mostly to be performed on the harpsichord, although several sources suggest that he may have also written some for the fortepiano at the Spanish court, where he was employed from 1733. The universal appeal of these sonatas – containing Scarlatti’s trademark influence of Iberian folk music and dances – is such that they have been pushed beyond the boundaries of the intended instrument, and thus the recording also boasts performances of selected sonatas on the harp and accordion, bringing these wonderful sonatas into the 21st century.

Bad Boys Blue - Heartbeat (1986)

Bad Boys Blue was formed in the summer of 1984 by German producer Tony Hendrik and his lyricist wife Karin van Haaren. The original trio was composed of British Trevor "Supa T" Taylor born in Birmingham, England; the original lead vocalist, British John McInerney; the lead singer since 1987, and American Andrew Thomas. The debut single L.O.V.E. In My Car failed to make an impression in the pop charts but the follow-up You're A Woman was a success, reaching the top 10 in many European countries. The group became massively popular in Eastern Europe and South Africa, with the band performing to sell-out crowds in Russia and the Ukraine. In contrast, the group never charted in the UK, and their only charting USA singles were Save Your Love (1993) and Luv 4 U (1994) which became successful chart hits. Those singles were from two of their albums that were released Stateside. Those albums are Bad Boys Blue (1993) and To Blue Horizons (1994). The group has experienced numerous line up changes. In 1988 Trevor Taylor left the group a year after being gradually demoted from his role of the lead singer. He was asked to rejoin the group the following year just for recording sessions of Hungry for Love single that was to be featured on the group's first compilation album Bad Boys Best. Trevor Taylor's departure permanently secured John McInerney's position as the band's new lead vocalist. Trevor Taylor was replaced by Trevor Bannister (born 1965.08.05 Grimsby, England), whose function in the group was mainly to perform Trevor Taylor's hits on live gigs. It is during Bannister's tenure with the band that Bad Boys Blue began taking numerous tours to Eastern Europe and gained much popularity there. Trevor Bannister left in 1993 and the remaining two members performed as a duo. During its entire South African tour, the duo was briefly joined by Owen Standing, who left the group shortly after, and therefore was not considered to be a permanent band member. Multi-talented Irmo Russel (born 1956.03.15 Aruba, Caribbean sea) joined the group in 1995, who in addition to stepping into Bannister's shoes was instrumental in revitalizing the group's creative potential, by becoming a composer, a video director, and occasionally assuming the role of lead singer on some of the tracks. At the end of 1999 Kevin McCoy (stage name JoJo Max) replaced Irmo Russel by joining Bad Boys Blue full-time after being the group's rapper since 1998, but left in early 2003 leaving Bad Boys Blue as a duo again. However, in 2005, Kevin McCoy rejoined Andrew Thomas' Bad Boys Blue line-up.

With vibraphone many associate rhythm and grooves, others possibly think of complex harmonic cascades. Karl Ivar Refseth can certainly play all of this, as you can hear on the first productions of the Andromeda Mega Express Orchestra, with the Tied & Tickled Trio with Billy Hart and since more than four years with Germany’s most innovative indie-rock band The Notwist. For his own album Praying, the Berlin-based Norwegian created an individual aesthetic.

Unless you raid the operas, there is very little music by Philip Glass for chorus which can be performed in concert. I was musing on this one Friday evening — during a rehearsal of the Three songs for Crouch End Festival Chorus's 1997 performance at Snape Maltings — when a little phrase suddenly reminded me of the song Liquid Days. And from that association grew the idea of making a version of Songs from liquid days for chorus and orchestra.

Hot on the heels of Brad Mehldau's Ode (Nonesuch, 2012)—the pianist's first all-original set with his current trio—comes Where Do You Start, culled from the same recording sessions but, with the exception of one Mehldau tune, all cover material. This isn't the first time Mehldau has split a particularly fruitful session down the same compositional line: Anything Goes (Warner Bros.) and House on Hill (Nonesuch) were both same from the same sessions, recorded with original drummer Jorge Rossy before he left the trio to return to Spain. But the two were released two years apart—the cover-song Anything in 2004 and all-original House in 2006—whereas Where Do You Start comes a mere six months after Ode.
