The latest chapter in Columbia/Legacy’s highly acclaimed Bob Dylan Bootleg Series revisits an often-forgotten, rich vein in Dylan’s vast and complex catalog, shining fresh light on the provocative new musical directions Dylan was taking as a songwriter and a recording artist from 1980 through 1985. In the early 1980s, while the music industry was grappling with the arrival of new trends and technology, from MTV to compact discs to digital recording, Bob Dylan was writing and recording new songs for a new decade, creating an essential new chapter in his studio catalog. Bob Dylan – Springtime In New York (1980-1985) celebrates the rich creative period surrounding Dylan’s albums Shot Of Love, Infidels, and Empire Burlesque with previously unreleased outtakes, alternate takes, rehearsal recordings, live performances and more.
The first five editions of the From Here To Tranquility compilation series on Silent Records were released in 1993-1996. After a 20 year hiatus, the series was re-launched in 2016. And here is the ninth volume, and it is subtitled In Dreams. Don’t expect to hear ‘music to sleep to’, however, because many aspects of the sleep cycle pass in the thirteen tracks (over 90 minutes) on this compilation. Tulpa Atma, for example, opens the compilation with some intriguingly abstract electronics, while Lingua Lustra’s Sleepwalking brings us back to a steady and relaxing pace. Each track has its very own atmosphere, and they can be quite different in comparison…
Essential: a masterpiece of progressive rock music.
Second album from this groundbreaking quintet that had offered us much of a thrill with their debut. Again here, if you are looking for the vinyl, please be aware that this album came out with a very close-looking version in America, but a completely different track list and is titled, The Grass Is Greener 5BTW, I distinctly remember a first version of Lost Angeles on this version of the album).
Coming right in time to match the July heat is the release of International Takeover from Mr. 305 featuring Pitbull and Friends. The compilation album is electronic and dance-heavy and features club favorites like Baby Bash, Trina, Trick Daddy, Qwote, Jump Smokers and Vein.
