As well as being the greatest and most influential Country music artist of his generation, the late Hank Williams was a peerless songwriter whose music and lyrics continue to be heard around the world some 65 years after his premature passing at the age of just 29. Prolific in a way few have been before or since. It's hard to know just how many more songs would have become country and pop standards had his life not been so short. In a recording career that barely spanned 8 years Hank wrote well over a hundred songs. Virtually all of them are now considered classics, and virtually all of them have been revived many times over by other Country artists. Hank's songs, and some songs he did not write but that are closely associated with him, have also made significant inroads into the pop, rock n' roll and R&B markets, particularly between the early 1950s and early 1960s when it frequently seemed like a badge of honour for any artists to cover a Williams copyright. This set offers, for the first time on CD, a varied and enjoyable selection of non-Country covers of Hanks songs from a collection of names that in themselves read like a mini-history of popular music. You'll know most of those all-star names even if you don't yet know their versions of these songs, several of which are making their digital debut here in this Jasmine collection.

Johnny Fuller was a journeyman blues and R&B singer who recorded and worked extensively on America's West Coast. He was obviously a major attraction considering the volume of releases he made on a myriad of local independent labels, and he was almost certainly a major money earner for jukebox operators despite never enjoying the pleasure of a charting hit.
This 51 track collection from Jasmine is nowhere near his complete recorded work and serves as an excellent introduction to one of the unsung heroes of the blues. Includes the original version of 'Haunted House' which went on to become a rock and roll standard.This is the most comprehensive collection of Johnny Fuller's work to the released on CD showcasing and hopefully bringing new interest to the career of this superb artist.

Sequels and answer discs first began to proliferate in the early 1950s, initially in the C&W and R&B markets, and proved sufficiently successful that within a couple of years, pop and R&R hits were also likewise being routinely spoofed and lampooned.

Like its predecessor, 'Tell Him, Popcorn Brit Girls 1960-62' (JASCD861), this 68-track, 2-CD set takes a look at the UK's favourite female singers in the pre-Beatles era.
It once again features 'usual suspects' like Helen Shapiro, Susan Maughan, Julie Grant, Carol Deene, The Vernons Girls (who sing the title track), Maureen Evans, Kathy Kirby, Anita Harris, Jackie Trent, Lynn Cornell, Glenda Collins, etc., not forgetting Dusty, when she was a Springfield. Juxtaposed against newcomers like Grazina, Candy Sparling, Simone Jackson, Christine Quaite, Susan Singer, Patsy Ann Noble, Patti Lynn, Suzy Cope, Jackie Frisco, Cherry Roland, Jan & Kelly, etc. Also, members of the established 'old guard', Alma Cogan, The Beverley Sisters, Petula Clark, Marion Ryan, Lita Roza, Cleo Laine, Jackie Lee, Ruby Murray, Pat Reader, Lorne Lesley, Ottilie Patterson, etc. This is another superb collection of hits and collectors' rarities, many of the latter appearing here for the first time on CD.

Back in the late 50s/early 60s, many R&R/Pop records were notoriously short on playing time, often clocking in at two minutes or less. Indeed, the shortest U.S. #1 record was 'Stay', by Maurice Williams & The Zodiacs (in 1960), at one minute thirty-seven seconds. These compilations, inspired by a suggestion from deejay Bernie 'Rock'n'Roll Heaven' Keith, each feature three-and-a-half dozen 'Sub-Two Minute Wonders'; i.e. forty-two killer tracks which get the business done in two minutes or less. You've got a bit of everything here; hits, misses, some that got away, B-sides, odd EP and/or LP tracks - and I'll wager that nobody realised some of these were 'quickies', until now!
