Mosaic is very pleased to present "The Complete Bee Hive Sessions." Spanning 1977 to 1984, they include so many names you will know and so much music, you won't believe you haven't heard it. This set includes 110 tracks on 12 CDs, including six tracks released only on a rare sampler and three tracks previously unissued. The deluxe booklet features an historical essay and track-by-track analysis by Aaron Cohen, plus rare photographs from the actual sessions. All sessions have been added their corresponding tracks from the 17th. LP, "The Unissued Sessions" to make a truly comprehensive set! Johnny Hartman’s album "Once in Every Life" (his next-to-last album as he made a record for Audiophile 12 days later) had never been reissued on CD at the right speed at which ace engineer Ben Rizzi recorded the sessions until this Bee Hive collection.

Perception Productions, a New York based label that ran from the late 60s through until 1974, was a strangely eclectic affair. Its roster stretched from a radical Afro-American poet through to the pop band King Harvest whose hit ‘Dancing In The Moonlight’ became a massive hit for the UK band Toploader a couple of decades later. The inbetween points covered jazz, funk, vocal harmony soul and proto-disco. In fact distilled down into this compilation the label provides us a view of Manhattan’s black music scene of the period, from the established greats to the fresh young things who would make their mark in the coming years. The two men who ran the label, President Terry Phillips and Boo Frazier burned brightly for that half a decade before almost entirely disappearing from the music scene.

Although trombonist Julian Priester had been playing for years on some of the hippest jazz sides ever recording, this stint of late 70s ECM recordings were some of his rare few as a leader, apart from some very early sides for the Jazzland/Riverside label. The groove here is stretched out, slightly electric, and slightly modal. There's a bit of Miles in the mix, especially on the heavier track – but you'll also hear plenty of Priester's deeply moody playing, developed strongly since his earlier days with Sun Ra and Max Roach.

Lovers Rock mixed American Soul music with Jamaican Reggae. At the heart of Lovers Rock remained the soundsystem culture that Jamaican producers brought from the Caribbean and transposed to inner city London life. Harmony, Melody and Style tells the story of Lovers Rock - from its soundsystem beginnings, its commercial explosion at the start of the 1980s and its underground continuance into the next decade as the founding producers continued to effortlessly absorb and mutate American soul, disco and rare groove styles into a distinctly British reggae sensibility. The album includes classic and rare tracks and comes with extensive text, as well as interviews with artists, musicians and producers who helped define lovers rock as well as exclusive photography.
