A pop vocal trio consisting of Chynna Phillips, the daughter of John and Michelle Phillips of the Mamas and the Papas, and Carnie and Wendy Wilson, the daughters of Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys, Wilson Phillips was the most successful new act in popular music in 1990. The group's self-titled debut album sold five million copies and spawned five top 20 singles, three of which "Hold On," "Release Me," and "You're in Love" hit number one. In assembling a compilation, producer Cheryl Pawelski tried to avoid duplicating material found on the two Wilson Phillips albums. All eight of their chart singles are included, but most are presented in the edited versions used on the singles or prepared for radio, rather than in the album versions, and no tracks that only appeared on the albums are included. The singles take up about half of the compilation, with the rest given over to rarities such as Japanese B-sides, as well as tracks from Naked and Sacred and The Wilsons.
