The story goes that Nicolai Dunger was discovered singing and playing guitar on his balcony in Piteå, Sweden. But the representative for Telegram who signed him was probably not very happy with the experimental music that emerged from the supposed singer/songwriter and the record Songs Wearing Clothes, which few people have heard about. But Dunger obviously had a lot of talent and was given another try with the album Eventide, recorded together with the string quartet Tämmelkvartetten. This album sold even less than the 1,500 copies of the previous album, and Dunger, who now lived in Stockholm, earned his living as a gardener.

A "here's-some-music-that's-influenced-us" mix, the 11th entry in the LATE NIGHT TALES series is an eclectic album compiled by the English folk-pop duo Turin Brakes. There's a mellow, downtempo vibe here, and a good bit of variety, with the likes of Chris Whitley and Gillian Welch sequenced alongside Talk Talk, Grant Green, J.J. Cale, and Silver Jews. Turin Brakes make a musical appearance with a cover of the Rolling Stones' "Moonlight Mile," which fits nicely into this blissfully low-key 17-song set.

Sometimes it's best not to predict. If the idea of expanding Fire!'s core trio of saxophonist/electric pianist Mats Gustafsson, bassist Johan Berthling and drummer Andreas Werlin into Fire! Orchestra's massive, 28-piece behemoth was based on the trio's extant discography— You Liked Me Five Minutes Ago (Rune Grammofon, 2009), Unreleased (Rune Grammofon, 2011), and In the Mouth of a Hand Rune Grammofon, 2012)—then a relentless album of high energy and high volume density would be expected. Which makes Exit! a complete and utter surprise, and in the best possible way.
