Spider Eating Preacher is 2012 album by Chicago blues legend Eddie C. Campbell and it's a family affair. Eddie & Barbara's musical partnership is in full blossom as Barbara plays bass on 6 songs. Barbara learned the authentic Chicago blues bass 'bump' from Eddie! Spider Eating Preacher features 12 compositions, including the title track, a song about Barbara's blindness. Their son, David, plays violin on two songs. This is the first time Eddie has played with his godson, Lurrie Bell, since the title track on Eddie's classic 1977 album King of the Jungle. This album is the follow-up to Tear This World Up (Delmard 799), a finalist for Album of the Year in the 2010 Blues Music Awards.

Parov Stelar returns with a brand new studio album. Entitled "The Burning Spider" the release opens a new chapter of his samplebased sound. Whereas Parov Stelar chopped and alienated sampled vocals in the past, he now places the names of the sound donors self-consciously beside his own: Muddy Waters, John Lee Hooker and Lightnin' Hopkins are also on the album as the singer Anduze from the American Virgin Islands, who already worked for Stelar before and who has a key position on "The Burning Spider". And, more or less as a bonus, there are still three "classic" Parov Stelar tracks with a decent portion of Swing on the album, because even if you are developing in giant steps you should not forget where you come from, and swing music is just a part of what Parov Stelar is.

Marvel revisits the scene of the original crossover storyline with ol' webhead taking center stage. This first issue is surprisingly good, as writer Paul Tobin manages a balance of serving up a nostalgic presentation of one of the forerunners of the modern crossover event at the same time giving Spider-Man free rein for his irreverent tongue-in-cheek asides, taking potshots at some of that series' admittedly sillier moments. Artist Scherberger's cartoonish rendering of Spider-man obviously sets up the tone. The interplay between the Hulk in his Bruce Banner persona and ol' webhead is the highpoint, I think.

Two stars of Saturday Night Live make their Marvel debut with an all-new story set right on the bustling, hot dog juice covered streets of New York City. Halloween is coming early this year as Spidey is knocked out during the Greenwich Village costume parade and an intoxicated reveler in a Spidey costume takes his place. Really, we don't want to say more than that. Trust us, with comic book legend Kevin Maguire (JUSTICE LEAGUE INTERNATIONAL) along for the ride, this'll be more exciting than putting a president on a comic book cover! --

A striking little set from vibesman Freddie McCoy – not just for the cool superhero image on the front cover, but also for the tight grooves underneath! The album's one of McCoy's most unified for Prestige – as all tracks feature a core quartet with Freddie on vibes, Charlie Wilson on piano, Steve Davis on bass, and Rudy Lawless on drums – not your usual Prestige players, and all musicians who really make the album sparkle! There's a bold soul jazz vibe running through the set – similar to some of Freddie's other work, but a bit more open too – and titles include a groovy take on "Girl From Ipanema", plus the soul jazz classics "Speak Out, Deagan!" and "Hav' Mercy" – as well as the cuts "Yesterdays" and "Spider Man".
