Born in West Palm Beach, Florida in 1944, George McCrae started his musical career singing in church and later joining the glee club at school. He formed his own singing group called The Jivin’ Jets before joining the navy in 1963 and reformed the group on his return in 1967 with the addition of his wife Gwen before they later decided to work as a duo on Henry Stone’s Alston label before Gwen went solo and George worked on sessions until a chance moment had him record Rock Your Baby, written by Harry Wayne Casey and Richard Finch of KC and the Sunshine Band.

The founding member of THE POINTER SISTERS, BONNIE POINTER began her performing career in San Francisco nightclubs in 1969. Soon joined by youngest sister June then by elder sisters Ruth and Anita, The Pointer Sisters released a string of hits on Blue Thumb, trailblazing from genre to genre, including funk and jazz, and won their first Grammy award for the country song FAIRYTALE, written by Anita and Bonnie, which would be recorded by ELVIS PRESLEY two years before his death.
At first glance the letters B-H-Y may not seem like much, but a little scratch at the surface would reveal three names of some of the most forward thinking, innovative and talented musicians of their time and beyond – Ronnie Baker, Norman Harris and Earl Young. Gene Chandler (born Eugene Dixon in 1937 in Chicago, Illinois.) is best remembered for the R&B and Pop #1 "Duke Of Earl” on which he sang lead vocal as part of the doo-wop group The Dukays. Chandler is hugely admired by soul fans as one of the leading names from the Chicago scene along with Jerry Butler and Curtis Mayfield, the latter of which often wrote for and produced the singer.
Dionne Warwick is a legendary American vocalist, she’s also Whitney Houston’s cousin. Throughout her career she’s released over fifty albums, won five Grammy’s and been nominated for a further seven as well as getting over thirty top 40 R&B hits. DIONNE, released in 1979 on Arista, was produced by Barry Manilow who also provides backing vocals and piano on a number of songs. Gene Page also makes an appearance orchestrating four of the songs.
A TASTE OF HONEY was the debut album from the Disco-Funk group on Capitol Records in 1978 The album features the international Disco smash hit BOOGIE OOGIE OOGIE which is featured here in three different mixes. Produced by Capitol Records’ Funk, Soul and Jazz legends Fonce Mizell & Larry Mizell, the album made #2 on the R&B album chart and #6 on the US Pop album chart, achieving Platinum status in the process.
