At the time of these recordings, Hines was in the process of re-igniting his once potent and inventive big band of the mid-'30s. And while he and his cohorts hadn't completely dropped off the quality scale - Hines' solos, of course, always remained hot - the group's material was beginning to dip in caliber. Then came the twin powers of arranger/tenor saxophonist Budd Johnson and singer Billy Eckstine. Picking up from his fine work on Classics' earlier 1937-1939 disc, Johnson delivers standout charts here, like "Number 19" and the novelty number "Tantalizing a Cuban." One of Hines' top arrangers from the past, Jimmy Mundy, also does his part with solid if somewhat slick cuts like "You Can Depend on Me" and "Easy Rhythm." And with Eckstine in the mix, the band finally found a genuine star vocalist…

Wisely, the Cure decided to start fresh upon signing with their new label in 2004 by cleaning house, remastering the old albums, and bringing their fans Join the Dots: B-Sides & Rarities, 1978-2001. Not only is it the ultimate companion to the official releases, but it is, in a way, the new-super-deluxe-updated version of that cassette release of Staring at the Sea. Every B-side is included, in order, with cleaned-up sound, liner notes, and explanations by the man who made it all happen. All tracks, from "10.15 Saturday Night" (the B-side to the debut single "Killing an Arab") to covers of "Hello, I Love You," "Purple Haze," and "World in My Eyes," to entries from the Bloodflowers singles, are an indication that while the Cure made both strong albums and singles, they were not afraid to experiment along the way, and more importantly, they didn't let pride keep them from not making them available to those who were willing to look for them…

Fifty years after the three-day concert made rock’n’roll history, a gargantuan, 38-disc set attempts to tell the full story of the event for the very first time. The mythological status of 1969’s Woodstock Music and Arts Festival can sometimes feel overpowering. The festival is the ultimate expression of the 1960s. Moments from the three-day concert have crystallized as symbols of the era, with details like Richie Havens’ acoustic prayer for freedom, Roger Daltrey’s fringed leather vest, or Jimi Hendrix’s “Star Spangled Banner” held up as sacred countercultural relics.

Fans of Martha Davis and the Motels have reason to rejoice, whether they first embraced the new wave band during the early '80s when the Motels came roaring out of Los Angeles with their blockbusters "Only The Lonely" and "Suddenly Last Summer" for Capitol Records, or in their more recent and equally powerful incarnation. Martha has assembled a collection of extreme rarities for this collection spotlighting her at the height of her formidable vocal power.

Dirty Work is the Rolling Stones' 18th British and 20th American studio album. It was released on March 24, 1986 on the Rolling Stones label by CBS Records. The album was recorded during a time of turmoil for the band, as the two principal songwriters, Richards and Jagger, had been feuding over the band's direction for most of the 1980s. Almost all of the band members had spent the previous several years working on solo albums or side projects. Other band members, including guitarist Ronnie Wood, drummer Charlie Watts, and bassist Bill Wyman, were often absent from the studio during recording sessions; it was rare that all five principal members were together at the same time. Additionally it would be the last album to feature former member and frequent contributor on piano Ian Stewart, who died shortly before the album's release.

It's hard to believe Whitesnake had been around for 25 years, but it's true and they've got the double-CD release to prove it. And not only is 25 Year Anthology a tribute to the longevity to the band; more importantly, it's a tribute to the voice behind the band, David Coverdale. Starting from their first big hit, "Fool for Your Loving" (the non-Steve Vai version), and going all the way through to their other biggest hit, "Still of the Night" (on the classic 1987 eponymous release), the group covers every angle of Coverdale's career. Somewhere in between are stops by the hard-rockin' blues phase of Whitesnake, the hair metal power ballad Whitesnake-Zeppelin years, and the solo years of Coverdale when he went on to record with Jimmy Page.

The Phosphorescent Rat is the fourth album by the blues rock group Hot Tuna, released in early 1973 as Grunt FTR-1010. This was the first Hot Tuna album recorded after guitarist Jorma Kaukonen and bass player Jack Casady had left Jefferson Airplane. They were joined as before by drummer Sammy Piazza, though Papa John Creach had left the band for Jefferson Starship. The band's playing was moving away from the softer, more acoustic sound of their first three albums, and towards a hard rock sound that would be explored on their next three albums.
