In the late 1970s, T-Connection was one of those bands that had one foot in funk and the other in disco. The Miami residents weren't nearly as gritty as Parliament/Funkadelic or Cameo, but they had more grit and toughness than glossy Euro-disco acts like Silver Convention, Love & Kisses, and the Munich Machine. T-Connection's albums were uneven, but the band could be exciting when it came up with the right groove. Released in 1977, their first American album, Magic, isn't perfect but has more plusses than minuses.

"Tailgunner" is an album by organist Jimmy McGriff recorded in 1977 and released on the Lester Radio Corp. (LRC) label. Doug Payne stated: "This 1977 disco production sounds like Jimmy McGriff was added as an afterthought. His distinctive organ fills seem "dropped in" after arrangers Brad Baker and Lance Quinn recorded the rhythm, horn and string sections. Worse, this is some of the weakest music McGriff has ever participated in … McGriff's only contribution here, the horn-driven "Starlite Ballroom" (featuring notable alto and tenor solos from George Young), makes for some welcome, though out-of-place swing jazz. Otherwise, there's too little that's memorable about "Tailgunner".

Bill Wolfer was a hot young session musician who received an unexpected chance in 1982 to make his own record - and made the most of it. The Wyoming native's star had been rising in the Soul Music world, and in the prior year he was involved with Stevie Wonder's "Hotter Than July" and had been responsible for the synthesizer and keyboard work on perhaps the year's most memorable song: Michael Jackson's "Billie Jean."

The album features the group's biggest hit single, "The Second Time Around". "Big Fun" has been certified Gold in the United States for sales of over 500,000. It peaked at #4 on the R&B chart and #23 on the Billboard chart (Shalamar's highest-placing album on this chart). In the UK it reached #45.

Disco tunes with a Brazilian spirit – recorded in Philly by Gary Criss, but with all the sunny finish of Copacabana! The tunes were all arranged by John Davis – and have this soaring style that's really great – a mighty vibe that grabs onto all the best Davis energy and moves the grooves strongly – almost in a way that doesn't even need Gary's vocals! Most tunes have a lot of great conga work – which brings an early bottom to the tunes, especially amidst Criss' smoother vocals and the soaring strings in the arrangements – balancing things out in a surprisingly great way. Titles include "The Lady Is Latin", "Amazon Queen", "Rio De Janeiro", "The Girl From Ipanema", and "My Rio Lady". CD features bonus tracks – "Rio De Janeiro (Tom Moulton 12" mix)", "Rio De Janeiro (Richie Rivera 12" mix)", "Brazilian Nights (12" mix)", "Amazon Queen (12" mix)", "Rio De Janeiro (single version)", and "Brazilian Nights (single version)".

Partners were US disco pop trio around 1979/1980. The style of their songs is very similar to the style of the group Bee Gees of those years. They had a club hit in 1979 with "Dance (Whoever You Are)" on the TK offshoot label Marlin.

Reissue with the latest remastering. Features original cover artwork. Comes with a descripton in Japanese. A late 70s set from tenor maestro George Coleman – who was never recorded often enough! The set has a really timeless quality, quite uncommon for pieces recorded at the tailend of the fusion mad late 70s, and at the cusp of the ultra polished 80s sound. The support players couldn't be tighter – with Billy Higgins on drums, Sam Jones on bass and Hilton Ruiz on piano. The tunes are firmly led by Coleman – who rolls out those great loping lines, that circular sound we wouldn't trade for an other tenor the of period! Includes the title track, "New Arrival", "Lo-Joe", "Autumn In New York", "Apache Dance" and "Blondie's Waltz".

Jazz / Post Bop / Vibes

Reissue with the latest remastering. Features original cover artwork. Comes with a descripton in Japanese. A simple but effective session from vibist Bobby Hutcherson – one that comes across with a really subtle brilliance! The tracks are all standards – performed by Hutcherson on vibes, with a quartet that includes George Cables on acoustic piano, Herbie Lewis on bass, and Philly Joe Jones on drums – all working with Bobby in a style that allows a lot of open space between the notes, an approach that's especially nice in the interplay between piano and vibes on the set. The style is a bit more understated than some of Hutcherson's other records of the time, but that also makes for a wonderfully gimmick-free approach that takes us right to the core of his talents. Titles include "Star Eyes", "If I Were A Bell", "Summertime", "Autumn Leaves", and "All Of You".
