This DVD highlights the advantages perfectly: there are loads of camera angles, and the cutting between long views and close ups of Jamal's facial expressions and hand gestures to the others, Heard's fingering and Israel's cymbals really adds to the live jazz experience.
A sorely underexposed figure and a major influence on Miles Davis, pianist Ahmad Jamal isn't generally ranked among the all-time giants of jazz, but he impressed fellow musicians and record buyers alike with his innovative, minimalist approach.

The Capitol Years is a 1998 box set by the American singer Frank Sinatra. This set was originally assembled by EMI, Capitol's sister company in the United Kingdom. The set contains 21 CDs featuring every album that Sinatra authorized for release between 1953 and 1961 (save for Frank Sinatra Conducts Tone Poems of Color and A Jolly Christmas from Frank Sinatra), remastered in state-of-the-art 20-bit digital audio. Each CD contains an individual Sinatra Capitol LP (including singles compilations), but the bonus tracks from the American versions appear on a separate CD here as The Rare Sinatra. The sound quality on this box is arguably superior to American remasters, also produced in 1998 for eight of Sinatra's key albums in the United States.

After fifteen films of mostly local acclaim, the 1956 prize-winning comedy Smiles of a Summer Night at last ushered in an international audience for director Ingmar Bergman. Set in turn-of-the-century Sweden, four women and four men attempt to juggle the laws of attraction amidst their daily bourgeois life. When a weekend in the country brings them all face to face, the women ally to force the men's hands in their matters of the heart, exposing their pretentions and insecurities along the way. Chock full of flirtatious propositions and sharp-witted wisdom delivered by such legends of the Swedish screen as Gunnar Björnstrand, Eva Dahlbeck, Harriet Andersson, and Ulla Jacobsson, Smiles of a Summer Night is one of film history's great tragicomedies, a bittersweet view of the transience of human carnality.

Along with Tony Bennett, Peggy King is among the very last certifiable stars of radio, television, motion pictures, theaters, nightclubs and recordings still working today. Shes packed a lot into a whirlwind career of the 1950s and early 1960s, working with everyone from Frank Sinatra and Sammy Davis, Jr. to André Previn and a three-year association with comedian George Gobel; appearing in films like Zero Hour; singing at the 1955 Oscar Awards telecast; entertaining U.S. troops overseas with Bob Hope during the Korean War; and recording for Columbia Records, among others. In 1961, she married After Six Formal Wear Chairman/President Samuel Rudofker, started a family in Philadelphia, and left the business. Aside from a brief re-entry onstage and with new recordings made during the mid-1980s, Peggy King did not perform in public professionally again until almost two years ago, when she met pianist Andy Kahn, drummer Bruce Klauber, and bassist Bruce Kaminsky, members in long-standing 42 years, to be exactof Philadelphias popular jazz ensemble The All-Star Jazz Trio.

Berman’s first teacher was his mother, herself a pupil of Isabella Vengerova, but at an early age he had lessons from Savshinsky of the Leningrad Conservatory. Berman first played in public at the age of four, and at the age of seven he took part in a concert at the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow, subsequently being asked to record Mozart’s Fantasy in D minor K. 397, and a composition of his own…
