How do I start talking about this compact and capital work? Perhaps saying that the magnificent cover, a drawing by Jordi Graells, in which the pair of musicians on stage, on the back, under a light bulb, is playing in an empty room (well, there are four cats), the I have framed and hung in my studio …? It was in 1973, neither the Mirasol Orchestra nor the Dharma existed yet. So, as today, open-minded adventures were a matter of four cats. It is what it touches when it lacks the parameters of the pop and the law of the majorities. This record has nothing to do with it.

Recorded at the end of Riccardo Muti's tenure with the Philadelphia Orchestra, this 1993 disc of late nineteenth and early twentieth century French orchestral music on the subject of the sea is far better than Muti and the Philadelphia's earlier recordings together. After 12 years of sharing the same stage, Muti and the Philadelphia musicians had apparently reached a sort of understanding: he wouldn't ask them to do anything they didn't want to do and they'd do what little he did ask them to do.

Lou Reed was a singer and guitarist best known as a co-founder of the influential rock group the Velvet Underground and later, as a legendary solo artist. He wrote evocative music using his knowledge of poetry while exploring a variety of genres and personas over his career including glam rock and heavy metal. Famous for writing and singing famous classic hits including 'Perfect Day', 'Sister Jane', and 'Rock and Roll', Reed continued to perform and record into his later years, releasing more than 16 albums over the course of his lengthy career.

One has a tendency to think of acts like the Pretty Things in terms of their albums, primarily because most of their singles simply never charted, even in England (and many were never even heard of in the United States), and the albums have been easier to find over the decades since. Actually, it was singles that best defined what most bands were about at the point that the Pretty Things first got together, and they never stopped neglecting that category of release – hence, this three-CD set containing the product of 33 singles (66 sides) over a period of 35 years, from 1964 through 1999.

Disco may have been a dirty word as the 70's came to a close but during the 80's its influence on much of this selection helped create some of the greatest dance music recorded. As a poet and philsopher once said, 'Lets Groove Tonight'…..
