Diamond Eyes is the sixth album by the American alternative metal band Deftones, released worldwide on May 4, 2010 by Reprise Records, after their departure from longtime label Maverick. An album tentatively titled Eros was originally intended to be their sixth full-length release and follow-up to Saturday Night Wrist (2006), but was not released due to bassist Chi Cheng entering a coma after a serious car accident that occurred in November 2008, eventually resulting in his death in 2013. The release of Eros was put on hold in favor of Diamond Eyes in June 2009. It is also the first album to feature former Quicksand bassist Sergio Vega, who replaced Cheng.

At some point in the early 21st century, Radiohead became something more than a band: they became a touchstone for everything that is fearless and adventurous in rock, inheriting the throne from David Bowie, Pink Floyd, and the Talking Heads. The latter group gave the band its name – it's an album track on 1986's True Stories – but Radiohead never sounded much like the Heads, nor did they take much from Bowie, apart from their willingness to experiment.

Following in the footsteps of their California brothers Sublime, Huntington Beach's Dirty Heads mix hip-hop, reggae, and rock along with that laid-back South Cali attitude. The group formed in 2003 when punk rocker Dustin Bushnell (aka Duddy B) asked his friend rapper Jared Watson (aka Dirty J) to collaborate on a project that would focus on positive vibes and infectious grooves. Watson added singing to his vocal skills, and with percussionist Jon Olazabal joining, an acoustic trio version of Dirty Heads began playing shows and building an audience.

Merging the edgier strains of rock and electronic, singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Aaron Bruno started AWOLNATION as a genre-fluid creative outlet that contrasted with the material he'd produced with previous outfits Home Town Hero and Under the Influence of Giants. Breaking into the mainstream with the multi-platinum international hit single "Sail," the project issued its debut, Megalithic Symphony, in 2011. As subsequent efforts pushed them toward the top of the charts, AWOLNATION soon surpassed all of Bruno's prior groups, becoming a popular alternative rock presence with efforts such as 2018's U.S. Indie chart-topper Here Come the Runts and 2020's Alternative Top 20 Angel Miners & the Lightning Riders. They took on cover tunes with 2022's My Echo, My Shadow, My Covers and Me, before returning to their original work with the 2023 Candy Pop EP.
