The theremin is the only instrument that is made to sound without being touched. The hands of the performer dance in the air, whereas traditional musical instruments are made to sound by blowing, bowing, plucking or striking. Invented by the Russian Lev Theremin in the 1920s, the theremin fell into oblivion for decades, one of the reasons being that only few compositions were written for this instrument.

Crystal Gayle will revisit the country roots that run in her family with You Don’t Know Me, a collection of familiar country standards that includes the title track, which was penned by Hall of Fame songwriter Cindy Walker and popularized by Eddy Arnold in 1955. Available September 6th, the LP was co-produced by Gayle and her son, Christos Gatzimos, and includes a trio performance of the Porter Wagoner-Dolly Parton classic, “Put It Off Until Tomorrow,” featuring Gayle and her sisters, Loretta Lynn and Peggy Sue Wright. Her first all-new album in almost 16 years, You Don’t Know Me also features covers of songs popularized by Connie Smith (“Ribbon of Darkness”), Faron Young (Willie Nelson’s “Hello Walls”), and Buck Owens.

Guy Livingston created this stunningly original CD by commissioning 60 composers from 18 countries to write new works for piano. The commission fee: a bottle of Jack Daniels. The only constraints, as specified by Guy, were that the piece be under 60 seconds in length, and that the audience not be endangered in any way.
