"The Art of Love" is the 8th studio album by German singer Sandra released in 2007 by Virgin Records. "The Art of Love" is Sandra's first album not to be produced by her then-partner, Michael Cretu, who at that time was unavailable due to working on the new Enigma album, A Posteriori. It was also her last album released before their separation in late 2007. Instead, the material was produced by Jens Gad, Cretu's "right hand man". This change made Sandra actively participate in writing songs for the first time in her career. She contributed very personal lyrics, revisiting sad experiences from her childhood. The album also includes three cover versions: "Put Your Arms Around Me" originally recorded by Sinéad O'Connor, "All You Zombies" by The Hooters, and "Casino Royale", previously recorded by Edyta Górniak as "Sleep with Me" and Conjure One as "Sleep". "Love Is the Price" features DJ BoBo and is their second collaboration, after the 2006 hit "Secrets of Love".

Enigma is a German musical project founded in 1990 by Romanian-German musician and producer Michael Cretu. Cretu had released several solo records, collaborated with various artists, and produced albums for his then wife, German pop singer Sandra, before he conceived the idea of a New Age, Worldbeat project. He recorded the first Enigma studio album, MCMXC a.D. (1990), with contributions from David Fairstein and Frank Peterson. The album remains Enigma's biggest, helped by the international hit single, "Sadeness (Part I)", which sold 12 million units alone. According to Cretu, the inspiration for the creation of the project came from his desire to make a kind of music that did not obey "the old rules and habits" and presented a new form of artistic expression with mystic and experimental components.

The super-relaxed hit single "Mishale" climbed the US charts up to number four. His ambition to create "universal World Pop" - as Donalds calls his music - of great diversity and full of atmopshere, turned out to be right and successful. He slowed down for his second album, though. "With this album, I wanted to show my personal development, not just come up with another "Mishale". It's like with movies, the follow-up is never as good as the original." His second album "Damned, If I Don’t" was published three years later in 1997. The song Somebody’s Baby was taken from this for the soundtrack of the Oscar-winning film Good Will Hunting.
