New title in the excellent value "Booksets" range. These are limited edition, multi-CD sets packaged in DVD sized Ecol-books, containing the contents of rare, expensive & hitherto unavailable box sets. Finally, EL&P has a retrospective to match the band's music. 5 CDs, basically chronologically arranged. The set includes unheard mixes and an excellent unreleased 'Tarkas'-era track that would have benefitted that album greatly. After a raft of chances missed where presenting the 'band that never ends' were concerned, the record label has, as this review's title says, at last made up for it all. Anyone hearing these CDs will be unable to laugh at the band or take them lightly. Emerson, Lake and Palmer truly were the greatest progressive act on earth. And, now, here's the proof.

ALAS was one of the most exquisite progressive bands in Argentina. The effective way in which they infused airs of Creole Argentinean folklore into their main prog sound - influenced by the massive energy of ELP (30 %) and the exuberant magic of WEATHER REPORT and RETURN TO FOREVER (70 %) - made ALAS a world of their own. Keyboardist/wind player/vocalist/main writer Gustavo Moretto had been a prominent figure in his country's musical scene. With the idea of forging a new musical direction leaning towards art-rock, he founded the band in 1975 in allegiance with bassist Alex Zucker and drummer/percussionist Carlos Riganti.

Between 1970 and 1978 Emerson Lake & Palmer were one of the most exciting rock bands on the planet and this stunning 2-disc set pulls together their greatest moments.
Featuring performances from every stage of their career, including 44 minutes of ELP headlining the massive California Jam Festival in 1974 on Disc 2 which also showcases the much sought afer footage of the famous spinning piano sequence. The DVD also contains Beyond The Beginning, an hour-long documentary, which tells the story of this remarkable band with tetreshing honesty and candour…

The debut album from this German band is an ode to the heavy sounds not alien to Atomic Rooster. While you discover the opener The Clown And The Queen, you should be blown away by the power of the Hammond organ and the wild vocals.
