The English-speaking world may only remember Françoise Hardy as a '60s icon, but in France, she is rightly considered a major artist. The truth is that in the course of a 48-year career, Hardy has released 26 albums, almost invariably excellent. La Pluie Sans Parapluine is her first collection of original material in six years, a period the famously reclusive Hardy spent in putting together a duets album, and writing a very successful autobiography.

Sung (except for one track) in English, this 1972 album (originally titled just Françoise Hardy) was reissued on CD by Virgin France in 2000 under the title If You Listen, and issued in some foreign territories under yet different titles in the 1970s. However it was titled, it was a good, tasteful, and subdued set of folk-rock- and singer/songwriter-influenced covers (though the one French song, "Brulure," was the sole original Hardy composition).

Jack Hardy (1947-2011) founded Fast Folk in New York City in 1982. Appearing on its stages was a folksinger’s near-imperative. Today, a generation of singer/songwriters remember him with gratitude and fondness, and 24 of them lent their voices to this musical homage, each covering one of Hardy’s songs. Hardy himself appears on two tracks, interpreting his songs “Gossamer Thread” and “Ponderosa.” Produced by longtime Fast Folk recordist Mark Dann and balladeer David Massengill, the notes include Hardy’s Songwriter’s Manifesto, along with many photos, personal recollections, anecdotes, and essays by fellow singer/songwriters who knew and cherished the Fast Folk founder. 2 discs, 26 tracks, 105-pages of extensive digital liner notes, photos, and lyrics.

You will find all the great french hits like "Le premier bonheur du jour", "Tous les garcons et les filles", "L' amitie" and more, among many interesting german versions. In french or in german or in any language this girl is "pure honey". Nice booklet with photos included.

The original Yeh-Yeh Girl, Françoise Hardy's singing career began with a brilliant self-titled debut in 1962. The album encapsulated Hardy's coy, dreamlike, and beautifully melancholic sonic persona with a collection of 11 mostly original songs. The album featured a few hits, including the particularly notable "Tous les Garçons et les Filles," which sold millions as a single. This repackaging of the original album also includes Canta per Voi in Italiano, an album issued shortly after the debut with some of its songs and additional numbers re-recorded in Italian. While the original album is a classic of French pop, '60s AM magic, and of course a forerunner of the yeh-yeh (aka yé-yé) sound, the additional tracks in Italian are a sweet counterpart.
